Aussies on for 300+
maybe IF one or more of Labuschagne, Green or Stoinis really get going, England nab 1-2 more wickets fairly soon and 250+ might be more like it, maybe even less

Green already as many runs in this innings as his previous efforts combined. England scratching around for someone other than Woakes and Rashid to bowl well

Rashid & Woakes : 12-0-52-4
Willey, Wood, Livingstone & Ali : 18.4-1-101-0

not hard to see the best tactic for aussies, and why England have struggled in the tournament, before last couple of games could throw Woakes in the other group

Very fortunate then for English cricket that novice World Cup winner and one day skipper Joss Buttler was reading and taking heed of the posts of renowned pundit and expert @Owzat on cricketweb.net/forum, wasnt it?
miaow from the forum sour puss....

wasn't exactly difficult to work out, except perhaps for you, BBC's Harpy and Butthead (and previous England captains who often tried to get through overs rather than realise actually taking wickets, especially when on top, is a better way around)

Australia will score 300. Milk Rashid's last three and it's 7rpo against a poor death attack where none of them have good variations or can bowl yorkers.

Lol no one more wicket here and they are going down for less than 250
agreed

problem with the "formula" I suspect Aidan is applying of double it at 30 overs is it is a rougher than rough application and as much down to trends of scoring/acceleration than a worthless duck method, principally doesn't factor in wicket loss or remaining batting which here is 4 down and not very deep

thing in aussie's favour is very much whilst Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood don't add up to more than a couple of good cameo sloggers they are very good bowlers in all conditions, average under 30s all three home and away. England's comparable three quicks let's say of Woakes, Willey and Wood have at best high 20s bowling averages at home and mid to high 30s away, and batting away is not consistent or great

Green's real lack of development since coming into the national team is a real concern. He's still got the same issues he had when he debuted 2 and a half years ago. Can't rotate the strike vs spin and struggles vs the high paced, short stuff.

Why are we still selecting Wood over Atkinson?
It is odd. Atkinson atleast looks like he handles the death well. Wood has been dreadful in the middle overs without keeping the runs down this WC despite having an inform rashid at the other end.

non-existent death attack, more dead than death, Willey a reputation and why he's inconsistently picked and probably why no contract, not great once the new ball is old.

Poor tactics from Butthead, maybe couldn't bowl Woakes through but no point keeping 4 overs of his, and didn't bring Rashid on early which may have got aussies in deeper trouble earlier and enabled the rest to at least suffer less punishment

Butthead's only real hope is Wood takes a wicket, or someone else, from nowhere and Rashid polishes off the tail, if he's saving Rashid he's even more stupid than Burgey, and more than I thought.....

3 wides in one over? Really?

EDIT
No wonder Labuschagne was shocked to get a straight one.

Why are we still selecting Wood over Atkinson?
long held misgiving that he is good, which in Tests he is (well under 30 average anyway) and T20is, and of course the belief he is the quickest bowler with deadliest bounce/short ball even though he is heading if not reached 40 average in ODIs

on another note not exactly a secret that a spin attack of Rashid plus Livingstone, Ali and Root was really optimistic it would do well, beyond Rashid. Would have been better off taking Ahmed and Dawson, no guarantee either would not crumble under pressure but the idea Livingstone might be an eg Collingwood or spin equivalent was a bit fanciful and he had not nearly enough experience to be pinning hopes on him doing it in the tournament
