English Domestic Season 2023

Yeoman

U19 Captain
Shrewd signing. While he took a bit of a battering in the Ashes, his style of bowling would seem suited to English conditions.

In theory yes, but he seems to have bowled so little outside Australia that I'm not yet convinced. But if it does pay off, I think Durham are genuine title contenders. They have that nice mix of players who have played International Cricket or are on the cusp of it, yet are unlikely to be called up. To steamroller Div 2 in the way they did takes some doing.

John Simpson signs 3 year deal with Sussex ..... wasn't expecting that. Was even under contract with Middlesex for 2024.

Indeed a surprise. From their perspective hope he does better than Steve Finn did. With the signing of Chris Wright as well, perhaps a change of direction from Sussex’s former youth focused policy.

Chris Wright is no longer joining Sussex. Middlesex of course have Jack Davies lined up already.

Chubb

International Regular
Chris Wright has had one of the weirdest first class careers I’ve ever seen. Completely innocuous and released by 3 different counties, suddenly became a gun and bowled Warwick to a championship, since then seems to randomly alternate between the two. How many counties has he played at by now?

really terrible news for Middlesex. been an absolute stalwart. with the financial irregularities at the club he won't be the last to go.

still,at least Ben Foakes can finally lay claim to being the best keeper in London.

Just the four: Middlesex, Essex, Warwickshire and Leicestershire (although he started off at Hampshire in their academy). Played for Cumbria 3 times this last year, fair to say still has it.

FBU

International Debutant
George Garton has signed a three-year contract with Warwickshire. Red and white ball :-O

Yeoman

U19 Captain
Cricinfo report says he has the option of playing first class cricket. Presumably contracted for T20 and will be paid on a game by game basis if he plays first class. I recall that Warks signed Moeen Ali on a similar basis.

That's probably right. Just checked the Warwickshire website. Says things like "the door is not closed on a red ball return" and "has an option to play red ball"

FBU

International Debutant
BBC
Garton has been signed to play both white-ball and red-ball cricket.

Lots of injuries so can't see him in red ball cricket. Hannon-Dalby and Rushworth with Barnard, Brookes, Norwell and Miles.....
His f/c ave 37.25 econ 4.11

Yeoman

U19 Captain
Did not have a happy tenure at Newcastle however perhaps running the commercial side of a stadium is more his line.
