**Official** English Football Season 2023/24

The jury is very much still out on Darwin
Is it though?

I know he had some comic moments initially and his performance in the game they beat City 1-0 was hilariously bad, but dude looks a baller these days. In 2023 where transfer fees are wild he actually looks like value atm.

Bet City -1 on Sunday, didn't have the courage to do the same bet tonight and settled for Newcastle to qualify at boring odds, but this side is doomed.

Its crap the players have clearly downed tools but yeah ETH is in a world of pain.

I will say though, can't blame anyone himself for signing Anthony, absolute shite personified.

To some extent I think it is. He's still not a nailed on starter, nor is he any guarantee for 20+ goals a season (required for elite strikers at top clubs).

I'm a huge fan and always have been but there's still plenty who make fun of him and criticize his ability/technique. He's on his way to justifying the price tag but I don't think he's there just yet.

That squad is a joke. Apart from perhaps Rashford, do they have any players that the other top clubs would want?

Also, can only assume that Liverpool are controlling the draw. Get all other big teams to face off against each other whilst they get more straightforward options.

The scariest thing is when you saw the other game on Sunday West Ham v Everton and thought later that both their sides were better than United and how many of their players would get in the West Ham or Everton sides? Shows how bad United are playing, bet they change manager and win 5 in a row as they have downed tools for the current manager.

Martinez is quality when he's fit. Garnacho has the potential to be a world-beater with decent coaching, everyone would take him. But he's signed a long-term contract with us so in a few years he'll probably be trying to resurrect his career in Turkey instead.

Yeah, Martinez was the other I was thinking of, but he's rarely seen these days. Hojlund may yet become a top striker and I suspect other managers would get more from Bruno, but it's not a squad to strike fear into others. The more you look at it, the more you wonder how it got Top 4 last season (mainly Rashford's goals I guess).

Klopp would have loved Mount. Its a shame he was greedy like Sancho.

Martinez definitely a better 4th choice CB than Gomez, probably also Matip. I like Mainoo and I'd take Malacia as a back up to Robbo, he'd fit in well with Gakpo, Grav and Virg. I rate Hojlund but not a player we would want or need. Wouldn't take Rashford or Garnacho either.

Weird how he over achieved so much last season and looks so out of his depth this. Maybe the falling out with players has really unsettled the squad but it does look like a team who have downed tools to get rid of the manager.

Martinez has been on an eerily similar arch to Romero.

Both joined the prem and started really well
Both had international success at the same time.
Both wound up surrounded by bozos (Dier, Lloris, Emerson, Onana, Maguire, Dalot etc).
Both had spells out injured while their managers stumbled towards the exit.

Like Romero, there's a quality player in there, they just desperately need to fix the manager and players around him.

We had a very good year for injuries last season, a bit of rub of the green, and elite performances from Martinez, Casemiro and Rashford that covered for our many passengers. And our usual challengers for top 4 had down years.

We still looked completely burned out by the end of the season, Newcastle absolutely battered us at St James’s in April. The warning signs were there.

I think Martinez is much better than Romero. He's the only member of the United squad I'd bother sticking up for. Not too many CBs give you both top-class distribution and aggressive body-on-the-line defending and ball winning. There's a reason his injury problems have coincided with the team falling apart.

Sorry, I was talking about one of the top teams, not the Thursday Night Boys!! πŸ˜‰

It would make for a pretty close poll right now. Neither are top 5 in the league

I'm not sure Rashford fits into this category any more either. I've always liked him but I think he's now pretty much set as a player, he's going past the age where people talk about potential.
