England were rubbish in 2011 but somehow got a tie with India. It would be quite typical of them to beat India then lose to Netherlands.

I genuinely think they should recall Woakes against India, yips and all. At least Woakes at his best is good enough to be effective against them. Atkinson and Carse will probably get smashed even if they bowl 'well' by their standards.

Looks like Livingstone, Moeen, Woakes replace Brook, Atkinson, Topley. For me, that's at least the right kind of balance in the side (closely mirrors India with 3 seamers, 3 spinners). Now it's up to them to perform.

My point was more that if you've got Livingstone and Moeen in your team, you don't need 6 batsmen above them.

I thought Mathews should have been in the squad to begin with but I think he's probably going to be pretty useless at 7. If Sadeera had struggled then bringing him in at 4 would have made sense but I'm really not sure what they plan on doing with him here unless he's turned the clock back 10 years with his bowling in the nets since he arrived.

I think if he’s going to be part of the team then he should have been playing buildup tournaments and all. Its too much to expect from a player after throwing him in the pool all of a sudden. But as you said Mathews is great so he’ll probably be get going straight away.

If he bats 7 and comes onto bowl at 115km/hr it's an insane selection.

I think they discarded him a bit early and then gave up too quickly when they recalled him as well - typical SL really - but his only use as a 3/4 these days and their #3 and #4 have actually been good in this tournament so it's a weird one.
