Not necessarily saying Stokes is better but I had a think this week about who a struggling England side in the 90s would have preferred and landed on Stokes.

Root has better longevity but I’d take guys like Stokes and Jadeja over him if I want to win a game

Stats will never show how Stokes made you feel, his career is a Hollywood movie much like Sir Ian Botham.

Yeah and to be fair to say Stokes hardly bowls is disingenuous. He hardly bowls now but for nearly a decade he was a genuine all-rounder.
Literally his last three Tests and four ODIs without bowling and apparently that means you can no longer rank him as an all rounder.

I think this is a really close one. Therefore I'm surprised Stokes is doing so well. If only people thought the same way on Tate v McGrath, sigh

It's very close but while Ben Stokes is possible only the third best England all-rounder of the past 50 years, Root is the best batter so wins it on that.

Shaun Tait v Anthony McGrath?

At the end of 2020 I would say Stokes was ahead. Since then, Root has pulled ahead imo. Longevity is ****ing hard for pace bowling all rounders though.

I think second. Stokes > Freddie for me.
