I mean our batting still sucks. Odd thing to say having put up 360 but hey it's true. Literally no one from 3 down inspires any confidence.

Head back in theory helps massively but only if he returns in the same nick that he was before his injury.
Yeah, that's what I thought looking at the scorecard. Huge knocks from Warner and Marsh, but gee it's all **** from there. 107 from 16 overs from 259-0. That isn't even bad, it's ****ing abysmal. Not often you score 360 and look exposed, but Australia did again.

I mean it's absurd batting. There are 16 overs left, he can afford to take two of them to get settled.
What is up with this guy? I've always liked him for some reason, has played some insane knocks, scored that great Test ton in India, but he appears to be the dumbest cricketer on the planet. Like he applies David Warner's general IQ to his batting. Or the selectors refuse to stop picking him, and he's trying to purposely set a flamethrower to his career so he can go and do something else.

Only side that is comfortably ahead of everyone else right now is India. I'd have said England aswell about two weeks ago but they seem to have gone backwards. Rest can beat each other on a given day
But are they comfortably ahead? Two months ago Australia were on top and people said India are second tier behind England Australia and Pakistan.

They’re clearly the most in form team right now and the odds favorite to win, but they’ve lost matches recently before the WC.

it’s not the squad has changed significantly from then, it’s just their form.

In India, yes imo they are comfortably ahead. Just can't see a weakness there

I mean it was only from the Asia Cup onwards, that Ind’s started fielding a full strength squad , for the first time since they toured Eng perhaps(where they beat Eng in the ODI series), and since then, they have been quite ruthlessly good.

If warner had gotten out in the beginning aus will be struggling to get 300 looking at that middle order
If teams can get at least 1 the Aus openers out early then they are a good chance to bowl them to under par scores. They’ve already shown big cracks in their batting and struggled with it their first 3 games when Marsh and Warner got out early. The middle/lower order is out of form also. It doesn’t help their batting when the bowlers have struggled to strike in the powerplay also

But that’s on form, which we all know can go away anytime.

Look, I agree with you - India look like they’re comfortably better than all the teams by the way they’re playing - though NZ at Dharmashalalook to be their biggest test - I was just speaking to the other posters claims of long term dominance.

Maxwell just doesn’t have much game awareness and temperament. If he did he would be one of the best all rounders in my opinion least in the short format. His talented but his batting is lazy because he doesn’t want to score the hard runs at the start of his innings and he never assesses the conditions or state of the match. I remember Darren Lehman when he was coach tried to change this issue of Maxwell and pushed him up the order but it never worked out.

I also think his a much better bowler than how captains use him whether it be for Australia or Ipl etc. A lot of matches he barely gets used but I think he does have the skill to bowl 6-10 overs most games and could have improved his bowling stats. For me his like a top 5 fielder as well

It's a classic limited overs cricket theme more so than just "Warner Marsh good, rest bad". When your top order goes big like this, collapses at the end of the innings are common just because of the state of the game.

The problem for Australia is a lack of finishers. Marnus, Smith, Head all should be basically opening as well to get the most out of them. Australia have filled their team with guys that can make 100s at the top of the order for fun but can't do the finisher role after a good start. If Warner and Marsh came in the middle order today they probably would have done the same as Smith and Inglis

He has to have mental issues and they've been getting worse. He never used to be as bad but his shot selection has been bonkers the last few years. He's become obsessed with the reverse/switch hit and kept playing it religiously even when it's a horrible option. Like they'll put 3 fielders back to cover the switch hit and leave the regular sweep open but he will still keep playing the reverse like he has some compulsion to do it.

He still manages decent returns because he's so talented but with a head on his shoulders he could have been anything. Genuine wasteman
