Not even close. There are so many turgid English batsman that don't even have a particularly high level of competence. Like sure, you may snooze your way through a Kallis century, but that century will probably make the game more interesting.

Atherton? Gooch? Strauss? Hussain? Vaughan? Lamb? Gatting? Collingwood?

You'd get more pleasure from reading the phone book.

And I don't want to hear any of this "but Vaughan was an attractive stroke maker". He only averaged about 5 per innings. Which if we're kind and give him the replays too, is probably about a minute worth of satisfaction per innings.
I would have said Tavare and Boycott from the times past but how doesn't AN Cook get on there too. Quite how Vaughan gets on there I am gobsmacked.

Kallis isn't even close. Sure he often reigned himself in as a cricketer and probably wasn't proactive enough in ODIs but not close to the most boring.

Cook could win games.

Cook could win games.
So did quite a few of the lot you listed, with Gooch's ton v Windies in the opening test of the 1991 series coming very much to mind. Cook was dull, with three innings coming to mind. His big double ton in the UAE in 2015, his double v Windies in 2017 and double on the most boring pitch ever v Austalia in Melbourne that autumn. That the one v Windies was in a game that England won is neither here nor there given the oppo.

Line and Length

As well as the obvious players such as Boycott, Tavare and 'Barnacle' Bailey there is Ken 'Slasher' Mackay. And Bill Lawry could be tedious at times.

James Anderson is more boring than Kallis, and Kallis was ****ing tedious.
Your face and posts are tedious ****.

I was just coming back to this thread to change a view I posted a few days ago in another thread. I stated that Jimmy Anderson is the most underrated cricketer on CW (and he is without a doubt criminally underrated here) But I actually think that Kallis has that mantle ......he's become like a joke meme on this place and I seriously don't get it?? I reckon if I were a South African here I would have burnt this joint to the ground over some of the **** posted about Jaques Kallis.

So I guess you missed the 10/11 Ashes or India in 2012? Bizarre summary of Cooks career tsl

Included Gooch and Vaughan yet forgot Tavare and Cook!

Kallis being bad is absolutely a CW meme now. But it came about due to him being retroacticely overrated by a lot of people. Pretty sure 95% of the time people talk about Kallis being bad (in Tests) it's mostly in jest.

Anderson definitely underrated here though, but not nearly by as much as he's overrated everywhere else

I hadn't forgotten those, but I was giving an example of some deadly dull knocks. I actually was at Mumbai for his ton in 2012, but he was rather overshadowed by some other fella... can't quite recall his name. That was a fine knock and arguably his best one was v NZ in 2015 when he did change the game around, although I think Stokes got MoTM for an all-round performance. Even so, I don't think it wrong to say that he was dull to watch.

Adorable Asshole

So we can all agree that the McGrath was the biggest bore that played test cricket for a considerable amount of time?

After Jadeja ofcourse. Nobody compares to that hack.

And if being able to affect the game makes a player exempt, Gooch was better than Cook anyway and more entertaining. Cook isn't the most boring cricketer ever, but he's a lot closer to that accolade than Gooch is.

If we were going for bowlers, I would chose John Emburey. Not taking a wicket across an entire series v Pakistan in '87 with his defensive darts does that for me. Some may similarly choose the likes of Ashley Giles and Paul Harris for deadly dull slow bowling.

McGrath and Jadeja are both pretty dull. I'd much rather watch Ashwin bowl and Jadeja isn't a very exciting batsman either.

Emburey was a very negative bowler.
