Yeah, pretty stoked about that!

But this seemed unfair to me:

That makes the crowd out to be much more hostile than I remember, and I don't think we were doing anything different to what literally any other home crowd in the world would be doing in that situation. Also, being Auckland, there was hardly a shortage of vocal South African fans in the ground either.
Was that a South African writer?

You don't half bleat on like it give you some superiority which is weird when you consider that the team you fanboy for were dispatched in about 14 overs in the semi final a few days prior.

Anyway the droning on about it was old hat by September 2019 but I will never not be triggered by factually incorrect usage of words like 'objectively'. Midwits like you use them to try and make it look like your dumb argument somehow has validity. No different to typing FACT at the end of an opinion, another common tool of the imbeciles on the world wide web.

Have a nice day

Totally, I remember a lot of people seeming very tense, and then the cheers were almost a release of nervous energy. There was a guy behind me chatting endlessly about how “as long as they get a run a ball they’re doing their job!” or something. 😂

It also takes a crack at the 2015 World Cup …. maybe I’m biased because NZ were unbeaten until the final, but I thought it was a pretty decent tournament?! It was certainly absolutely huge in NZ.

The final being an anti-climax probably influences people's opinions about the tournament as a whole.
There weren't really many close finishes tbf. Apart from the SF and NZ vs Aus group game, a lot of the other games were very one sided.

Some of the associate games were really good though. Afghanistan-Scotland in particular.

This list reminds me of the list of greatest performances of the last 50 years, another poor but hyped list.

India got 11 selections (Pakistan only 3 including nothing from Wasim, Waqar) but their selections included Laxman as no.1, Kumble tenfer for no.11, Dravid's 233 as no.19, Sehwag's 309 and some random unheard performance from Kapil.

WOW. No Musthaq Muhammed vs WI?

It's Andrew Fernando, think he's Sri Lankan.

I'm a Saffa and I agree it's unfair. If that game had been played at the Wanderers or something you can bet your house us SA fans would have been as obnoxious, if not more so.

Forgot the iconic England vs Bangladesh match . And the humiliation in that match forced England team to completely change its white ball approach.

Yup. Imran has at least a couple of performances that should have made it. Hanif playing the longest ever innings ever to save a game doesn't make it. In fact, not a single knock by a Pakistani, even the Azhar Mahmood ton that was rated in the top ten by Wisden.

Don't lie Ed, everyone knows you were giving the South Africa players death threats throughout. You can't kid us!

The scope was for the 50-year period 1966-2016, so Hanif's innings falls outside that.

Just went through it. It was a great list (somehow have no memory of reading it before). You shouldn't moan about absence of Wasim-Waqar, just like I don't moan about absence of Tendulkar.

I haven’t checked the list , did these 3 Test make the list ?
1. Chennai Test 1999
2. Chennai Test 2008 ( India vs Eng 387)
3. Hobart Test 1999 ( Aus vs Pak , chase 370)

It's a list of greatest individual performances rather than greatest Test matches, but no - none of the performances in any of those Tests made the list.

I complained about Tendulkar too when it came out. Flat track innings like Dravid's and Sehwag make it and not universally hailed Tendulkar's classics in Chennai and Perth.

They also put Gowers' historic 72 in this game in this list. Don't you remember this?

Basic problem is the same as this 20 greatest games list, it's just personal favorites with clear bias and no criteria for selection.

Which led, 8 years later, to people arguing for four years straight about the technicalities of overthrow laws and tie break rules.

In 2011, England were **** but somehow managed to be entertaining with 4 matches that went to the wire.

In 2015, we were just ****.

Whatever it takes!!!
I still think 87 was probably the best WC tbh. The fact that it was Eng V Ind and Aus V Pak in the semis and everyone expected Ind V Pak back home and it ended up being the even older rivals in the finals... Just felt like an amazing tournament based on everything I have read.
