It's closer to the truth than the fairytale about Kallis being able to score quickly at will but just choosing not to.
That makes it worse for Kallis actually. He willingly chose a self-defeating style of play then.

I prefer to think he was playing in a handicapped fashion.

Kallis was never not an atrritional batsman and the support issues in the early days are exaggerated but he was quicker than Dravid/Chanderpaul.

SR of 50, 2002 onwards. Dravid and Shiv never really left the early-40s. Kallis seems to get more scrutiny for his scoring tempo than Dravid though. Might be because Dravid has more marquee knocks.
50 is pretty good. He has a couple of mid 50 years from 2010-2012 too. Maybe he just chose to score at sub 50 earlier in his career.

No, because Dravid served a specific purpose of accumulating in a lineup of aggressive bats. His slow rate was compensated by Sehwag and Sachins higher rates.

Kallis should have been the aggressive mega bat coming in at 4 and taking the reigns. Instead he was a dead weight on the entire lineup.

Maybe but I think Dravid was inherently defensive. The tempo he played at perhaps came with less caveats in a more aggressive batting lineup but wouldn't necessarily be sure he would have an SR of 50 for over a decade if he featured in a more atrritional lineup.

Not sure if Dravid was capable of averaging 55+ with a strike rate of 50 like Kallis did post 2002. His average would have probably dropped a lot

Yup Dravid was more defensive than Kallis true while Kallis' defensiveness cost SA more.

Kallis' SR increased steadily as his career progressed but was only consistently 50 plus in his last five years when he followed the tempo of the more aggressive batters in the lineup like Amla and ABD.

What an awful take.
