20 Greatest ODIs (by ESPNCricinfo)

Great individual innings can elevate matches to greatness too, especially with ODIs, but there are an endless list of such ones. I'm not convinced that the Kapil one is in there because it's the greatest such example of its kind in ODI history but because of what it meant to Indian cricket, like I'm guessing we'd never have had the IPL if India had lost or something.

Pretty sure all the other examples of great matches with great individual innings have other significant performances in those games that made them all-round better and more worthy of being in the greatest ever.

Tendulkar's Sharjah knock game, for example, had a ton by Bevan too. Even Kohli's knock, which on second thought shouldn't be in the top 20, had a great batting performance by SL.

This is CW, there's always gonna be some grumbling even if there's not much going on in the cricketing world.

Look at the ATG arguing/discussion thread.

I do, especially the fact that the game where AB got the fastest ever 100 is there. Was one of the all-time great ODI knocks but the game itself was boring. Game was over when SA's innings finished.
Not true. I have already explained that the list makes sense.

Norwood's on Fire
Sky doing a series on classic WC matches. KOB destroying England on as we speak. Forgot about that atrocious drop from Strauss. What an innings though

The 1992 WC SF definitely deserves a mention
Both of them do tbh:

The Crowe injury & Inzy certainly does, but so does the farcical rain rule which led to DL/DLS and the start of SA's problems in World Cups (still yet to win a knockout qf or sf match).

Champions Trophy 2002 Semi Final

I know people are having a problem with many India matches but we should judge on the quality of the matches I feel ..

I mean what box does this match not tick ?

Backstory - SA are hosting the next World Cup and want to move on from the ghost of Hansie Cronje,
India are in the middle of a golden generation, still riding high after Eden Gardens 2001 Test , they too are hopeful that this will help them move on from Mohammad Azharuddin match fixing scandal..

It's a Champions Trophy semi final , look at the quality on show.

It's Tendulkar vs Kallis, Gibbs vs Sehwag, Smith vs Ganguly, Zaheer Khan vs Makhaya Ntini, Yuvraj Singh vs Lance Klusener, Dravid,Pollock, Rhodes, Kumble ..This is a blockbuster match , literally legends in every position.

Then the match itself had so much drama .
SA get Ganguly and Tendulkar out cheaply , but Sehwag and Yuvraj play a blinder , then SA take the last 4 wickets for 7 runs ..India finish on 261/9

SA come out and boss the match, Gibbs scores an amazing century after Smith falls early, Gibbs and Kallis are cruising towards victory..

Then at 192/1 in the 37th over ,Gibbs retires hurt after a fabulous 116 off 119 balls ..
Kallis is holding anchor and SA bat deep with Robin Peterson at No.9 but Harbhajan Singh inflicts a double strike getting rid of Rhodes and Dippenaar ..

India manage to defend 60 runs in the final 10 overs against a powerful SA batting line up, Sehwag and Tendulkar bowled 6 of the last 10 ..

If we want to do all SA chokes we may need a separate top 20.
