I watched the LFC game so I didn't catch the NLD live, just watched a replay.

Few thoughts on Liverpool v West Ham first
- LFC struggled to start with, especially with Gomez trying to invert
- Matip best game in a LFC shirt for a very, very long time. Antonio was anonymous.
- Szoboslai close to motm again. He's on the shortlist for signing of the season
- Darwin was very good, caused Zouma and Aguerd problems the entire game both with physicality and pace
- Paqueta the best player on the field for either team. He was unreal, especially off the ball.
- Jones had a solid game, his ball retention is up their with the best in the league. Underrated player.
- From 60min onwards there was only one team in the game. LFC looked fitter and had far more quality off the bench
- Virgil has quietly returned to close to his best. Been very good so far this season in spite of the red card.

And on the Arsenal v Spurs game
- Van de Ven was my motm. What a signing. Vicario not far behind him, some clutch saves.
- Nketiah really poor all game, didn't understand Jesus being subbed off he looked the most threatening
- Arsenal better team for first 35min then Spurs got on top, largely due to Bissouma and Sarr
- Rice going off killed Arsenal's chances, drop off to Jorginho is scary
- Still no idea what Havertz brings he was a non-factor. Viera should have stayed on.
- Odegaard great in first 15min then anonymous. <65% pass completion and looked like he lost almost every 1v1 duel.
- Interesting that Son and Maddison went off. Ange has huge trust in his bench
- Spurs marginally the better team over the 90min but 2-2 was fair.
- Worth noting that Spurs had more possession, Arsenal don't look the same side as last season.

Really keen for Spurs v Liverpool now. Good test for both teams

Spurs have had the tougher games and being the home side should fancy their chances.. Liverpool will be happy to concede the ball and focus on transition and set pieces. I think it'll come down to how Spurs handle the Liverpool bench and how far ahead they are around the hour mark.

Liverpool have looked fitter than every team they've played against and have firepower so I think if its a close game Liverpool will most likely get on top and knick something late.

Daniel Farke seems to be the man for the job for Leeds. Early days but things are looking up

Fingers crossed they win again this weekend and condemn S*uthampton to a 5th straight defeat. Really enjoying their efforts so far in the Championship.

Meanwhile, in League 1 I'm starting to get rather hopeful for this season....

Has that result changed anything? Bare minimum you expect three points there, Sheffield are horrible.

I think the bigger outcome was at the San Siro, 0-0 against Milan in UCL is a great result.

They've got some easier PL fixtures now so I expect they'll start making their way back up the table but I don't think there's really that much to read into the Sheffield result. They still need to get out of that UCL group while prioritising points in the league so as soon as they slip again in either the knives will be out for Howe.

There's no actual knives out for him though. External noise.

lol yeah if by "recently" you count the last three matches, two of which were against prank opposition and/or in a Mickey Mouse competition.

I thought they still looked pretty bad against Bayern. It's not an especially elite Bayern side. Every team we play against spends the entire second half sauntering into our box with zero pressure.

Yeah the 4-3 scoreline flattered United. Its two wins, but one against a side likely to go down by a mere goal and the other against a side who could not be bothered last night.

Its all quite dire this from Napoli, assume he will end up at Chelsea in January

Liverpool's slow starts seems to be going on for seasons, it's just very odd for a team that used to come out all gus blazing.

They have 16/18 points tbf

ignore me, I missed the ‘s’ on the end of starts. It’s almost parody now

Yeah I understand some may not like him but have seen very little chatter anywhere especially online which is notoriously melodramatic when anyone has a slight slump about getting rid of him.

Looked at skybet also, he is 25/1 next manager out, if people thought he was in bother he would be much shorter as it does not take much money to move those markets.

Now we wait for the draw, would much rather have had Citeh in it than Newcastle, but a trip to the Emirates is top of the list I think.

Yet obviously filthy lucre, you'd take man U at The Theatre of Crass Commercialism.

He has credit in the bank for last season, they overachieved coming 4th so early in the project. There's no way he is the next to go with their upcoming run of fixtures.

I think there's alot of parallels to Hughes at City, he's the guy navigating their early investment but there will come a time where the owners start expecting silverware and they'll look around Europe for an accomplished manager who can take that next step.

In many respects I think the premature 4th place finish may end up being what hurts him the most, feels like they're running before they have learnt to walk. By that I mean they haven't really consolidated themselves as a top 6 side and now they're in Champions League and have a starting XI that most expect to be top 5 again. It's his first dabble in Europe too and he's landed in a tough group, although I think they'll get through it. Anything beyond the first knock out round would be a huge pass mark.

Where I predict they'll come unstuck is not having the quality in the squad to rotate and having to prioritize one competition over the other. If he tries pushing for all silverware available the extra mins in the legs will end up biting them towards the back end of the season. We saw it last season with Arsenal where they threw away the domestic cups to try keep pace with City and in the end the squad lost a few key players and they ended up with nothing. With how Newcastle started they are going to be chasing the top 2-3 for most the season

In any case glad they got the win over City in the cup - happy for pretty much anyone to win it now that isn't Man United.
