I think they may surprise a few but when the real crunch comes , that’s the huge challenge they still have to prove

Team looks really strong, despite the Nortje injury blow. Middle order especially.

I don't think anyone has them as favourites, but they're in the handful of teams who could win if things fall their way. Surprised not many here were tipping them to make the semis in the predictions thread.

I think that’s down to past failures

they do look to have most areas well covered but the old failing has to be conquered

can they get over the semi curse ?

They've had way better teams before with super stars they don't have now yet they never got close, won't get within a bulls roar.

As a Proteas fan I think the team looks good, maybe the tail is a tad too long, think seven is a spot too high for Jansen.

I don't think they have everything required, they have one of the weakest lower orders going into the World Cup ..
They are really suspect in slow and dry conditions, they have had only two ODI tours to Asia since the last World Cup , both tours they lost to Sri Lanka and India respectively ..
And like you said, they don't have a very good record in World Cups especially when it matters.

If there is a turning pitch, their batting order will fall faster than deck of cards. I would not bet on them in India.

I thought they had a major chance in the T20 in Aus, but they managed to choke their way out of a semi there. Yes, they've beaten slightly under par England and Australia teams at home in the last 9 months, but it just never seems to translate to really competitive matches. On paper they look good, but suspect their bowling attack may get taken to the cleaners a couple of times, and Jansen at 7 still looks a place too high given what comes after him.
