You can't compare current Fiji to the previous teams which played the good sides like once a year and never at home. A couple of years in Super Rugby have made them a good side that can beat basically anyone on their day.

Would rate Fiji rugby significantly better than BD cricket. On top of their own team they supply talent to many other sides. Have the talent (as do the other Pacific Is teams) to be world champs.

Does Aus rugby = Bangladesh cricket?

Or Fiji cricket?

I'm sure many of you know, but there was a Fijian cricketer known as I. L. Bula who had the longest name in 1st class cricket history. He toured NZ in the 40s and 50s. He also played for Fiji when they beat the Windies.

Fiji are ranked 9th in the world (will be higher after today's match) and never beaten quite a few teams. Bangladesh are ranked 7th and just beat India. Pretty equal imo.
Given Fiji have dominated 7's rugby, that's more akin to regularly winning the World T20. Perhaps the Windies are a better comparison at the moment.

As for this game, Aus lost the breakdown, boy could they have done with Hooper. I still reckon they could beat Wales who were lucky against Fiji and pretty poor against Portugal (the cricketing equivalent of Nepal). If they did, it could easily come down to points difference as to who goes through. Wales inability to score more than 4 tries against Portugal could come back to cost them.

Yeah, and when Aus lose to Bangladesh in a WC it's a disgrace as well and should be called out.

Australian rugby players are professional sports people as well. The game is well resourced and should be doing better, but it doesn't for reasons which are well known. The sooner its put out of its misery here the better.
What does this even mean?

Hooper has been injured and may not have been available for this game anyway

Lost in all the justifiable gloom is the fact that we have a massive injury list and little depth which has been highlighted by unbalanced squad selection
