Tendulkar vs Lara (against spin)

Who was the better player against spin bowling?

Lara. Sachin was great vs spin but Lara actually took apart arguably the greatest spinner of all time on conditions loaded in his favor. Murali in SL is a cheat code; a code Lara solved no questions asked.

Not to diminish Lara's performance, but there have been several others who dominated Murali at home too.

Lara also has a double ton against Murali in the WI.

Yeah I'm well aware of what Sehwag, Fleming and co have done to Murali. But none of their performances come close. Lara practically scored 700 runs in 3 tests. That would be akin to me saying that hey, Sachin made runs vs the Ws and Donald (he didnt) but so too did Steve Waugh, he's not unique.....😉😉😉

Well Fleming also averages over 100 there like Lara.

Just saying it's not a cheat code. The reason I bring up Lara double tonning at home against Murali is to show it's not just one series.

Bunch of posts from other thread can be moved here. My vote is Tendulkar here because:

Brian Lara dismissals:

Warne: 7 times in 20 matches
Murali: 5 times in 8 matches
Saqlain: 2 times in 1 match

Tendulkar dismissals:

Warne: 3 times in 12 matches
Murali: 8 times in 19 matches
Saqlain: 3 times in 4 matches

Included Saqlain because he had great success against Tendulkar. I don't think you can claim Lara was better undisputedly. Lara always had better peak form/performances so you are going to remember that from memory. But Tendulkar was a great performer against spin too overall.
I am actually undecided on who is better against pace.

See this is my issue. In the pace debate I readily concede Sachin was slightly better but now that we're discussing, spin I genuinely don't believe that you think Lara is better. Not when you're being disingenuous bringing up Warne's shoulder surgery to somehow diminish 1999 or saying stuff like Lara isn't the only one to dominate Murali. We all know he isn't. That's like people like ikki or Stephen who in every series Warne played vs India saying he wasn't 100%. None of that changes the facts. Lara unlike vs express pace, never looked out of sorts vs Warne.

Maybe you misunderstand the point I am making.

Lara was the best player of spin I saw, the only one to rival him would be Sehwag.

Just saying that Lara's domination was more than just one series in SL, which others have done, though not to his degree. He followed it up in 2002 with another dominating series against Murali which people totally forget.
