I guess the question is whether he’s really a like for like for Green. Doesn’t matter in a match like this, but would teams question it in a more important one?
I don't see the problem, Cameron Green averages 50 with the bat in ODI cricket, and 42 in List A ..
Both batting averages which are considerably more than Labuschagne..
Since the concussion sub would only need to bat in this instance , you could argue Labuschagne is the closest thing batting wise to Green amongst those on the bench ..

Certainly has the room to be dodgy if the match referee doesn’t do a good job. Green’s good enough with the bat for a switch to Labu seem like to like (plus he was batting 4), but if England tried to replace a Woakes with Livingstone or something that’d be in unfair territory imo.

in this instance probably fine, but not sure you’d get away with specialist bat replacing all rounder every time. Had Stoinis been on the bench, think he’d have been selected ahead of Labu.

And he could be heading for POTM having not started the game…

This game reminds me a bit of the time Bopara and Broad chased down a similar total against India. Miles ahead on the run rate but 8 down, just knocked it around comfortably.

Another issue that could arise from this concussion sub business ..

Let's say Pakistan makes a huge score vs India and Virat Kohli is on the bench ..400+ , Then in the chasing innings Shubman Gill gets a hundred but he's running out of gas , he's cramping and can't run properly so he's a liability to the batting side ..Let's say it gets to a stage where it's 9 wickets down but they are well ahead of the rate , remember the guy whose made significant contribution has cramps and there's no runner allowed ..There's like 80 more runs to get from 10 overs ..suddenly he gets hit by a bouncer ..and gets replaced by Virat Kohli who takes India home with Supreme running between the wickets ..

How would that be fair ? The guy who got concussed already made a huge contribution in the match , so the batting side had an extra specialist batsman to help them in the chase plus was able to run singles easily which the concussed batsman could not do just before he got concussed. There would be a huge uproar ..

1 solution to this would be bringing in the impact sub rule which no one will approve of for obvious reasons

Good match to watch. Nice effort by South Africa but they fell up short.
Nice effort ? Nah I don't think so , this was absolutely embarrassing..

This was only a game because of Temba Bavuma .
So no so-called batsman in the Sa side can be proud of that effort bar Bavuma.
Quinton De Kock batted like he was retired already , we really going to just let this guy do ****all and retire when we crash out of the CWC , you could tell me Jansen did okay but he's a No.7 ...Cute 30's followed by a string of low scores is not going to cut it ..Agar is a better batsman than Jansen and he is coming in at no.9 ..Says it all really . How can you set up a side with such obvious ****ing flaws..

And don't get me started on the bowling, you have a side 113/7 you kill the game , you have to win the game from this position ..we bowled both sides of the wicket on a pitch that gave plenty of assistance ..And where was the Yorker? Hardly bowled at all..

These kind of defeats hurt more than thrashings..

Australia weren't at their best today, their fielding was a joke , their shot selection was reckless at times but they still won the match , if your opponent has an off day you need to punish them ..We didn't do that .

Sorry. Don't mind my opinions.

Didn't some aussie posters waahhh about Chahal being the concussion sub for Jaddu as a bowler?

Agar & Labu's stand(114*) 6th best for 8th wkt partnership in ODI # 1 (138*) by South Africa Justin Camp & Andrew Hall vs India.

Probably 1st time when Concussion Sub involved in winning 8th wicket stand in ODI

Cong Australia, next game also at same venue

Labuschagne MOTM

Yes Bavuma should awarded too. Probably Cricinfo announce Bavuma Most Valuble Player Award.

Green is a much better ODI bat than Labuschagne so no, it's not an issue. If it was the reverse I would be asking questions though

I see what you're saying, that Green is an all rounder, but he's not in the side for his bowling. If Labu was rated a better bat than Green then he would have been batting 4 in the side
