a fantastic start turns into a typical new zealand one, slow and unimaginative

Both Seifert and Allen's dismissals look like two guys who have no idea how to score when bowlers bowl in certain areas. Thats always been Seifert's way and it's becoming a trademark of Finn, too. Bog them down, hit good areas and they'll probably lose their shape trying to slog across the line.

Neil Young

State Vice-Captain
Yeah...he plays a lot of cricket, without having made any really discernible improvements yet.
Yes. You'd think the basics are there, but he just needs to play cricket shots at this level for now.

But who is coaching these guys? The game I saw the other day, Bowes, Rachin, Seifert and even Will Young tried to hit every ball to the boundary. Only Phillips batted sensibly but still hit 65 of 37.

I think that's knowing your game and cricket nous. GP might be a bit of a different cat and he's no MENSA member, but he really has moulded his game beautifully and has a clear plan. This innings has been a perfect case in point. Looks to find a gap for a single every ball, unless it's really hittable. Batted perfectly to the situation he was faced with, trying to bat time because our tail starts with Milne at 8.

Mitchell usually knows his game very well too but that shot in the 12th over with only Santner behind him, to a guy bowling leg spin who doesn't always land it, he'd probably like a go at that again option wise
