I've heard that post DRS alot of taller batsmen coming up in Aus struggle with the LBW because if you get a good stride into the ball at the lower levels from watto/Greens height the umpire is just going to assume the ball is going over, while at higher level umpires are alot more happy to give them. Maybe hilton had the same issue?Cartwright getting bowled was a great meme, he really needs to bring that back.
Yeah I think that does happen to a few players, but that doesn't explain why he was getting straight up bowled.I've heard that post DRS alot of taller batsmen coming up in Aus struggle with the LBW because if you get a good stride into the ball at the lower levels from watto/Greens height the umpire is just going to assume the ball is going over, while at higher level umpires are alot more happy to give them. No, he really doesn't.He needs to be keeping.
Did you read my post? I was saying philippe doesn't make it into a WA side, even one missing a few key batsmen, if he's not keeping. I agree with you on the fact that dropping the gloves should help His batting, but that doesn't really matter if he's not getting game time without the gloves without some freak injuries/form drops. No, he really doesn't.
Even if I put aside my prevoius point about Philippe being more likely to fire with the bat imo without the added burden of keeping, the fact remains that he simply isn't very good at it. That alone should be reason in enough of itself to give it up
He's pretty ordinary isn't heSwepson's been terrible here. No pressure at all.
Has not been the same at all since he had that weird neck injury. I think he might be done. He's pretty ordinary isn't he
Neck injury really ruined him. Hasn't been half the bowler he was since. Real shame, but we have some good younger guys coming through now, so not too worried. Murphy is gun, sangha is promising aswell and kuhnemann is a perfect secomd/third spinner on more helpful decks. He's pretty ordinary isn't he
I did read your post, and I just simply disagree with it.Did you read my post? I was saying philippe doesn't make it into a WA side, even one missing a few key batsmen, if he's not keeping. "I agree with you on the fact that dropping the gloves should help his batting, but that doesn't really matter if he's not getting game time without the gloves without some freak injuries/form drop" quote from my last post.I did read your post, and I just simply disagree with it.
I think you are slightly overestimating WA bench strengh/exaggerating how far down the pecking order he actually is (of the names you mentioned I would be definitely picking him ahead of Stoinis, who should be moved on from entirely in FC cricket imo). With international duties and maybe a couple injuries thrown in he can absolutely 100% be picked as a specialist bat
The idea the he needs to keep wicket to play is just utterly bizarre
Well that makes a fair bit more sense I suppose. Would still personally prefer to see Philippe not keeping full stop, but in that scenario with Inglis being one of the players unavailable I at least understand it"I agree with you on the fact that dropping the gloves should help his batting, but that doesn't really matter if he's not getting game time without the gloves without some freak injuries/form drop" quote from my last post.
Where making the same point. He's not going to play unless a few freak injuries happen and/or a ton of guys get called up to international cricket. My point in the first post wasn't "He needs to keep to play all the time", it was "He needs to keep to play if the three main WA test squad guys get called up (Inglis, Green, Marsh)." My bad if I didn't communicate that correctly.
If the aforementioned guys get called up, and a few of the other guys who are batting middle order get injured and/or Philippe decides to bat at 3, he doesn't need to keep to play.
