Thanks. My reasoning is they have similar home/away splits with May having far tougher conditions. May perfectly matches him in FC too. Compton losing years to the War complicates it a bit though.Out of post war players, nothing stood out to me as special for Compton, even in watching the footage. Would agree with BazBall21 that May is definitely better.
Anyway, going Younis here again.
Nah, he was better than that. Warner can sometimes look absolutely clueless. Still I don't know much, as I' haven't seen ought but highlights of Compton. His average isn't that impressive, at barely over 50. Can't say I'm super convinced about him as a batsman in a modern condition, for example.Compton was probably around David Warner level

Sehwag level thenLol, I think Hayden is the bees knees. Way closer to Warner than Hayden, for mine.
That means none actually.Compton?
Compton averages something crazy like 90 over the FC matches during the War. Arguably lost the most for War, and to me, is clearly ahead of May on longevity.Thanks. May has an outstanding first class record too.Compton averages something crazy like 90 over the FC matches during the War. Arguably lost the most for War, and to me, is clearly ahead of May on longevity.
Yes, he does. But he didn't missed his absolute prime like Compton.May has an outstanding first class record too.
We can only rate the player that actually played. Not what could have been.Yes, he does. But he didn't missed his absolute prime like Compton.
Adding some valuable context here. This context missing prime years to War is really important, for players like him, O'Reilly, Nourse, Merchant, etc. who performed in the war years. We can only rate the player that actually played. Not what could have been.
Keith Miller started late and ended up as one of the greatest all-rounders of all time. And obviously there's one called Bradman too.
Again though, can only judge them on what they actually did achieve in tests, like the WWI interrupted players (Hobbs and Faulkner anyone?) and Apartheid affected players.Adding some valuable context here. Yes, but that doesn't removes this important context, does it?Again though, can only judge them on what they actually did achieve in tests, like the WWI interrupted players (Hobbs and Faulkner anyone?) and Apartheid affected players.
