Retire then Unretire

Did Cowdrey actually retire before he was called up to play Thomson at 42?
Certainly not from domestic cricket. And I don't think he retired from test cricket, he was dropped due to age, poor health and diminishing returns.

International Vice-Captain
Frank Foster briefly retired from first-class cricket in 1911, was persuaded to return (as Warwickshire captain), then played in the Ashes winning side in 1911-12.

And didn't just play, but took 32 wickets for the series and formed a brief but celebrated partnership with SF Barnes.

Great batting depth but only 3 genuine bowlers.
I don't think that Boycott's absence from 1974 to 1977 was announced as a retirement. More that he was unavailable for international cricket until he decided otherwise.

What's the story with Pietersen? I don't remember him retiring at all.

I'm assuming this is a reference to Kallis playing in that Masters T10 comp in America.
He's been doing that sort of **** for ages though. He averaged 142 at a strike rate of 130 in the LLC earlier this year.

I was hoping cnerd had insider info on him coming out of retirement for the Tests in NZ after RSA had to pull their T20 contracted players. :(

I only just found out about his triumphant return to the LLC earlier this year tho.
