I do hope there aren't any quotas involved for the team going to NZ , it should just be that you pick the best team since it's a special circumstanceMarius posted this earlier, but here's Neil Manthorp's speculation around the squad.
That really doesn't look too bad.
Sipamla is a legitimate Test quick imo, whilst de Zorzi falls under black African and Qeshile has some T20I experience. Heck in these circumstances Zondo is an okay squad pick. Don't think Quotas will matter much.I do hope there aren't any quotas involved for the team going to NZ , it should just be that you pick the best team since it's a special circumstance
I saw Qeshile play against SL A , wasn't impressed tbh , how did he go with the bat in the T20 for SA ?Sipamla is a legitimate Test quick imo, whilst de Zorzi falls under black African and Qeshile has some T20I experience. Yeah I'm afraid my this is clutching at straws , Qeshile didn't even bat in those couple of T20 games so you can't really call that international experience, but he is among the more talented black batters that we have and he keeps wicket aswell ..I saw Qeshile play against SL A , wasn't impressed tbh , how did he go with the bat in the T20 for SA ?
How old is Zondo and what's his FC average ? , he played vs Australia and got a few starts so maybe he could be promising.De Zorzi I know is a young prospect .
For the umpteenth time, there are no match day quotas. The racial make-up of the side is assessed over an entire season.I do hope there aren't any quotas involved for the team going to NZ , it should just be that you pick the best team since it's a special circumstance
Hamza and Stuurman wouldn't be bad calls either. So conceivably there could be more non-white players selected than there were in South Africa's last test match, just through natural circumstances.Sipamla is a legitimate Test quick imo, whilst de Zorzi falls under black African and Qeshile has some T20I experience. is it just me or do you 2 have the same posting style and pattern weirdly lolYeah I'm afraid my this is clutching at straws , Qeshile didn't even bat in those couple of T20 games so you can't really call that international experience, but he is among the more talented black batters that we have and he keeps wicket aswell ..
Khaya Zondo is not a young player he is like 33 years old and he averages 31 in FC , I always say when your age is higher than your FC average you've got big problems ..
He shouldn't be anywhere near an international squad , jury is still out on De Zorzi but what I like about him is his penchant for big scores, he has a FC triple hundred , and before that he got a double hundred albeit in provincial cricket(A level below your normal FC in SA) .
I noticed that too ! Haha but I don't think this KV guy is a big fan of Sri Lankan cricket considering some of his views on Sangakkarais it just me or do you 2 have the same posting style and pattern weirdly lol
don’t think he would be alone in that with @Himannv aroundI noticed that too ! Haha but I don't think this KV guy is a big fan of Sri Lankan cricket considering some of his views on Sangakkara
There are even Sri Lankan posters who arent big fans of Sangakkara dude ..One doesn't hide it at allI noticed that too ! Haha but I don't think this KV guy is a big fan of Sri Lankan cricket considering some of his views on Sangakkara
But you still need to play a certain amount of players of colour in matches, otherwise at the the end of the season if you're falling behind in that there will be consequences? It's not like you have freedom of selection like other teams .For the umpteenth time, there are no match day quotas. The racial make-up of the side is assessed over an entire season.
freedom of selection and meritocracy in cricket is a big myth and i wish it dies tbhBut you still need to play a certain amount of players of colour in matches, otherwise at the the end of the season if you're falling behind in that there will be consequences? We have to wait and see who gets selected first, a lot can change from now and that tour...Ben Stokes was retired from ODI cricket a week ago , now he's going to the ODI WC..This SA tour of NZ should not have test status since South Africa are possibly sending their 4th XI. Pretty much a first-class domestic team.
