If Hoggard was a better bowler than Lillee then Trueman must also be better.

Which he was.

I sure some footage of FST the other day. I know it is from many years ago and not the best, but I wonder just how quick he would be on the speed gun today? I wasn't convinced he would be in the top bracket in terms of pace. Fred Trueman 1952,1961,1964! - YouTube

Trueman beating Lillee by a smaller margin than Hoggard is doing so.

Though I fear that if some poor sod is to start up "Trueman v Hoggard", a sort of demented Penrose triangle may result.

This is an interesting one. I have always wondered why isn't Trueman, rather than Lillee, is considered archetype of modern day intimidating pace bowler? Pace bowlers before him didn't take so many wickets at such average, SR and WPM over a longish career. I understand Lillee had more followers and more latter day great pacers gave credit to Lillee which explains this. Still interesting to note how Trueman was first of his kind.

Beating Akram is nonsense imo but between these two ATG HTBs he may well be better.

Both a couple of overrated Convict/Pommie *****, but I'll give it to Trueman, just barely.

I like RIS's post though, because to me one is simply a more modern version of the other, although I think Trueman was the slightly more effective for his era.
