Alex Hales Retires from International Cricket

Molehill

Cricketer Of The Year
Had an outside chance of making the World Cup Squad, but obviously won't now.

A T20 Winner, would've been an ODI World Cup Winner too if he hadn't pissed off Morgan.

Some great innings along the way, the destruction of India (with Buttler) in the T20 semi one of his best.

Yeah that India game was ridiculous. No wonder Shri hates us so much.

I believe @Burgey sends his best wishes on a happy retirement

Owzat

U19 Captain
A shame, regardless whether he started or not he would have been an invaluable member of the squad as back-up and shame he decided to retire now ahead of the World Cup - after it would have been a better timed retirement, with some new talents like Brook about he might not have made the squad anyway, we'll never find out

Chin Music

State Vice-Captain
My guess would be is that he knows he won't make the World Cup squad so he can be as free as possible to go on the franchise route and coin it until he retires.

Socerer 01

International Captain
picking Vince ahead of him in 2019 was peak pettiness from Morgan

but then again he was a piece of **** so only has himself to blame

It's not a hard job for the mods to do.

Simple work.
We need some clear, objective criteria to determine who gets their own retirement thread (or multiple in the case of Stuart Broad) and who can be dealt with in the retirement thread.

Or perhaps when a player retires someone first posts a poll thread asking whether they deserve a separate thread or not.

Everyone gets a thread. But it doesn’t get 50 replies within the first 3 hours it gets locked and all posters from that country get banned.

Going back to Hales I first saw him in about 2007 smash a 150 at Trent Bridge in a Pro40 game. I took particular joy in watching him launch Gareth Batty repeatedly into the stand. It was obvious the kid had something about him so no surprise he became one of our greatest white ball players.

Worcestershire still won the match, chasing 280-odd off their 40 overs, with Stephen Davies scoring a century. The Pro40 was a real precursor to the success of the England ODI side several years later. Quite a few of that side cut their teeth in the tournament.
