Moral Victories

2023 Ashes
Actual Score: 2-2
Moral Score: 3-2 England (England win the 4th Test and win the 1st Test because they were overconfident but otherwise should've won that. They lose the last Test however because of the unjust ball change)

2005 Ashes
Actual Score: 2-1 England
Moral Score: 2-1 Australia (McGrath injury, murray mints)

2016 England tour of Bangladesh
Actual Score: 1-1
Moral Score: 2-0 Bangladesh (they only lost by 22 runs in the first Test despite chasing on a minefield)

2007/8 India tour of Australia
Actual Score: 2-1 Australia
Moral Score: 1-1 (Sydney '08, cheating Australians and blind umpires)

2016 Pakistan tour of Australia
Actual Score: 3-0 Australia
Moral Score: 2-1 Australia (Pakistan made 450 chasing 489 in the first test which is insane and they deserved the victory. Due to butterfly effect the series could really have gone 3-0 to Pakistan, we'll never know)

Plenty of rain affected ones but those are very obvious and don't need much discussion

2021–22 Bangladesh tour of New Zealand
Actual Score: 1–1
Moral Score 4–0 to NZ (fluke, per Bayes most likely Ebadot [briefly EbaGOAT] was on PEDs; moral third test because all series deserve three tests that obviously went to NZ; moral fourth test to compensate for the mosque attack :( Hagley abandoned test the previous series)

Another point to Australia for India making a racist slur on Symonds. Point lost to India because they threatened to walk if they didn't get their way. That was extremely shameful.
Moral Score - Australia 2-0
Interesting points. However given the extensive debate on this topic, lets agree to defer those points to the 2011/12 series. Australia won 4-0 there and with the revised moral score it reads 6-0. In fact we debuted Karn Sharma in that series so I'll deduct another one from India to make it 6 to -1.

2017-18 Ashes
4-0 England
Australia were ball tampering the whole time. The draw probably stays as one.

2021-22 Ashes
5-0 England
They locked us up ffs.

2007 England V India
1-1
Rain stopped play with 9 down ffs

If you're giving England the OT Test in 2023 then you also have to give it to them in 2005. McGrath played in that too.

2007 England V India
1-1
Rain stopped play with 9 down ffs
Was going to mention 2007 too. India saved by rain at Lord's before winning a vital toss at TB.

India had to bat through a lot of bad light and would not have been 9 down if not for that.

So assuming there was no bad light, I will stick to the principles below

And all things aside I am a big butterfly effect believer.
and as such I cannot conculde that England deserved that victory because who knows, maybe Kumble would've tonned up like he did later in that very series. Thus the bad light and rain may have in fact robbed India of a famous win.

Good in theory but I’ve checked and we still would have won sorry

This is all bollocks and you're all making things worse

This will remain the only good post in the thread

Moral win Ashes 2023 3-2 Australia

Umpires favoured England with ball change and rain.

All the series OP named the teams deserved to win apart from England 2005.

India was racist in Australia 2008 and where was No cheating only bad Umpires.

2001 NZ in Australia Test series
Actual score: 0-0
Moral score: 2-0 NZ - Would've won the first Test if McGrath wasn't a dirty bastard and bowled wides to McMillan as we rounded for home chasing 284; 2nd Test rained which always happens in Hobart so we leave as is; 3rd Test we were robbed by Ian ****ing Robinson.

2015 NZ in Australia Test series
Actual score: 2-0 Australia
Moral score: 1-1. Nigel ****ing Llong. That is all.

I guess SA in 2009/10 could claim a moral victory over England , twice they were denied a win by the heroics of Graham Onions with the bat in 2 nail-biting draws . Ended up winning the series 1-0

If you can't get a number 11 out, you don't claim moral victory unless the rain saves them. FACT

Also the series was a draw

2010 Pakistan tour of England

Actual score 3-1: England
Moral score 2-2 (Amir was taken advantage of by a typical Brit crim and deliberately bowled badly, without this happening Pakistan would have carried the momentum of the previous test and Amir in particular would have surely claimed a 10-fer)
