The Building Blocks Draft

U19 Vice-Captain
Nice side. You have the wrong average for Gibbs. Johnson is a great pick this late in the draft.
No Gibbs career average is 41.95 and he scored 5242 runs at 47.23 in the opening slot in 116 innings . 38 innings in other positions with an average of just under 30 with 923 runs combined in those innings . 9th overall best average for an opener with 5000 or more runs as an opener .

Edit , went to confirm my stats from my notes and it is correct , however the 923 runs in other slots was at a lower average of 25.6 not just below 30 as i had noted , also another side note he only had 5 scores above 50 and no hundreds in those slots .

What happens to the rest of us?
The below to complete their teams , you should be done ? If your referring to voting etc i have no clue only my second ever draft completion . I enjoy the journey more than the voting or competition element so doesn't really phase me but probably best to ask that when everyone is done .

  3. ataraxia
  4. Teuton

You received Wasim in R1.
I can't be mad about that but I probably wouldn't have picked 3 other pacers if I had known that..

Good thing I've got Cowdrey who can open.

Bruce Mitchell
Colin Cowdrey
Maurice Leyland
Clyde Walcott
Aubrey Faulkner
Quinton De Kock+
Maurice Tate
Wasim Akram
Jack Cowie
Mason Crane
Neil Adcock

Tate at 7 is suboptimal but Akram was a pretty good #8 so that kinda evens out I guess.

I'll go with Adam Voges and finish with a final team of:

Gordon Greenidge /
Virender Sehwag /
Lindsay Hassett (c) /
Babar Azam /
Vijay Hazare / o
Adam Voges /
Ajay Ratra (w/k)
Chris Woakes o/
Malcolm Marshall o
Gareth Batty o
Chris Broad o

Happy with my final side given the shaky start with Ratra and Batty being allocated.
A pair of aggressive openers followed by strong middle order batting should ensure good scores. Ajay showed enough in his 6 Tests to indicate a competent 'keeper with a century to his name. Batty (spinner) is a bit of a concern with a poor Test record but a solid FC career. A pace attack of Marshall, Broad and Woakes with support from Vijay more than makes up for the lack of a big name spinner.

My final team

Conrad Hunte
Bill Ponsford
Ricky Ponting (c)
Sachin Tendulkar
Stan Mccabe
Rick Darling
Bert Oldfield (wk)
Shaun Pollock
Abdul Qadir
Neil Wagner
Bob Willis

Willis and Pollock provide the pace and seam respectively with Wagner coming in as the third pacer and Qadir manning up spinning duties.

Just in case people wonder about Oldfield, "Tiger" Smith, in his ninety-first year, the oldest surviving cricketer of England-Australia Test matches, who first kept wicket for England in 1911, considers Bert Oldfield and Dick Lilley the two greatest wicketkeepers that have ever played.

Rick Darling is a darling at 6 after that strong top 5 who can at least provide the style if not the runs.
