Most ruthless and destructive batsman i have ever seen is Shahid Afridi. Perhaps the most in cricket history.
For me it's Chris Gayle ..

I liken him to a sleeping giant, for the most part he just tried to bide his time , try and play correct .but on the occasion he was batting angry ..Very few batsmen can outscore him , you can't teach sheer brute force power ..

afridi’s fastest century came off 37 balls all the way back in 1996. It took 18 years to break it and only bettered by 1 ball (corey anderson 36 balls)
Which took De Villiers to break it in just a years time. In modern times equating for SR that Afridi century in 96 was probably something that came off 26 balls.
And afridi’s century was against world cup winners Sri Lanka. While de villiers and Anderson brought it up vs West Indies who have declined with poor bowling standards on top of it.
Gayle’s fastest century came off 69 balls that too vs zimbabwe. He’s destructive too ofc but if both are on song, Afridi takes it miles ahead

Disagree, Afridi was a blind hitter ..
Didn't really care about scoring big runs , if he wasn't a bowler he would have been dropped a long time ago ..If you play 20 years like this something will happen ..

and how does this point not contest him as destructive? So he just closed his eyes and hit 52 fifty plus scores and 11 hundred plus scores in his career?

How many matches did he play to get that ?
hes a bowling rounder. Theres no bowling rounder in the world that can make a team with bat alone. Those matches would be needed to deduct by half if you wanna just poke a stick at him for his batting.

besides you saying hes a blind slogger makes more sense to why he’s more destructive, because like you said he doesnt gaf about big scores but more to cause chaos and desturction with the bat

Yeah but others on this list were more consistently destructive

Viv then the rest. Viv actually did it vs half decent bowlers and at time when bouncers were unrestricted, bats were schitt and a ground like the MCG had boundaries all the way back.

The Wheel is Forever
I think for something like this, you can only compare them to their contemporaries. styles, bats, strategies, etc all evolve. Who knows what viv would have done growing up with helmets and T20 and modern bats?

I think by that standard, Viv was much further above his contemporaries than the others. He was doing **** and hitting balls in a way when no one else was. It’s hard for a batsman to actually intimidate fast bowlers and you just have to listen to his contemporaries.

I prefer to look at consistency over time rather than one-off performances.
For mine, Viv and Gilly stood head and shoulders above the rest.
