The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Bolo.

International Captain
Outside of openers, which is a complete toss up after the four and open to any myriad of players for the final two spots, I've gone with mostly consensus picks, not my opinions per say. Not sure if any of the players are that disputable tbh. 🤷🏾‍♂️ Donald, Pollock maybe?
No bad picks, just plenty of other options. Donald and Pollock are easily replaceable, as are a couple of others.

Sanga and Akram may raise some questions in their playing roles as a WK and AR- they played more as a bat and bowler.

Test batting averages for eleven years following the conscious switch to bowler-friendly pitches after August 1950. Period ends August 1961 after when most pitches were something like normal. Matches in West Indies excluded as conditions there remained near-perfect for batting. Qualification 1500 runs.

53 - O'Neill
49 - Hutton
47 - Kanhai
45 - May
43 - Sobers
41 - Compton
40 - Harvey, Peter Richardson
39 - Graveney, Hanif Mohammad, McGlew
38 - Cowdrey
37 - Bert Sutcliffe, Umrigar
36 - McDonald, Manjrekar
33 - Endean
30 - Roy, Waite
29 - McLean
26 - Bailey

Australia made an odd decision not to schedule any home series for four years between 1954-55 and`1958-59. Combined with three successive Ashes series defeats, interest in the game there declined. Around 1957 it was claimed that the most popular current Australian sportsmen included no cricketers. Instead they were the likes of Lew Hoad, Ken Rosewall and Ted Whitten.

To say the very least, your last two posts have been quite though provoking.

Benaud's template aside. If I were to create a squad to duke it out to make a final touring party. No consensus, my squad.

You've got Warne twice, guessing one of them is meant to be Murali.

Didn't consider current players. Smith and Cummins decent shouts to feature somewhere when they're done.

Assuming I'm not picking 19th Century players or anyone currently active, this is remarkably similar to my first three XIs, with just a couple of changes.

Yeah not too bad. A couple of tweaks and your first XI is probably there.

Disappointed at the lack of a surprise Nourse entry ngl

Also surely Hadlee bats above Davidson?

Couple of interesting ones in the third XI, quality stuff though.

I recently put Nourse at #19 in my list of top 20 bats. Could definitely find a spot in that third eleven on another day, but yeah no way he'd be missing the fourth eleven.

Hadlee should probably be above Davidson ahead on Tests alone but I do think Davo was a much better batsman than his Test output.

If I'm not going to include Grace I probably shouldn't bat Davo ahead of Hadlee though, good call..

I like the Dravid at opener, curious on Compton and Waite? (dunno much about him)
