Yeah I agree, but the problem people had with the Thailand game was the outlandish celebrations for every goal. I think there's worse things in the universe, but that doesn't mean everyone's obliged to forget embarrassing behaviour.

True, I remember some consternation among American commentators who thought there was a whiff of misogyny about it all. There probably was, but small in comparison to the general RoW antipathy towards arrogant American athletes.

I vaguely recall Cristiano Ronaldo celebrating scoring a last minute (of extra time) penalty in the 2014 CL final like he was personally and solely responsible for the win, despite Real already being 3-1 ahead.

Felt like he was taking the Mickey Bliss, and I think this opinion was shared by Dave Beckham's old buddy Diego Simeone who got himself sent off in the aftermath.

My pet hate are NFL players who play to the camera after doing something incredibly simple like falling on a loose ball that they had no part in knocking free

I've been to two international football games. NZ v Bahrain in 2009 in Wellington, and last night's game at Eden Park. Two from two in the glorious wins category.

Great win from the team. I missed it but went to the friendlies pre-tournament and while I thought we played some nice football, the other sides (Portugal and Argentina) just had that bit extra quality and got more and more comfortable in the second halves of both.

So to come on and put in a performance like that against Norway is a huge improvement in the space of a couple of months. Huge credit to them.

I was very impressed - admittedly I came in with very little knowledge, just the expectation that the NZ women weren't strong based on media reports*. However they had most of the possession and territory and were the better side for plenty of the match (though were not above a few mix-ups at the back that could have conceded another day). Hannah Wilkinson a great target up front and surprised we have some pace on attack (I Riley and Steinmetz I think).

Norway looked like a team that hasn't played together a lot, which seems odd as they probably have. Would understand being annoyed if you're a Norway fan.

* and I'd caught the Phoenix women getting thrashed on tv a couple of times, but I see now only two of the NZ squad are from the Phoenix.

It is winter. That game is in Auckland which is quite mild and it was a day game. Further south in NZ it is colder, and colder still for night matches. The temperature for the matches in Australia will be will be warmer than here.
