The best ATG fast attack

Migara

International Coach
We are all told that attack of Marshall, Holding, Croft and Garner was the best ever. But they rarely played as such.

The best ever WI pace attack would ne Marshall, Ambrose, Holding and Garner. How ever is this the best we can assemble?

A SAF attack of Steyn, Donald, Rabada and Pollock is as equally effective and perhaps bit more rounded to bowl on unhelpful conditions.

If three man attacks are considered it would be Marshall, Ambrose and Garner vs Steyn, Donald and Rabada.

Are their any better 3 man or 4 man ATG attacks can be assembled per country?

Roberts, Holding, Croft and Garner was the original four pronged pace attack. that is probably what you are referring to.

I am happy to take Roberts, Marshall, Holding and Garner - a real combo that played 9 tests together.

I’m being shown 6 tests (by statsguru at least). 2 in England in 1980 and 4 vs India in 1983. Interesting stats for each bowler.

Roberts: 33 @ 17.48
Marshall: 23 @ 27.08
Garner: 19 @ 25.36
Holding: 15 @ 45.86

Idk about better. But comparableish to Windies and SA

McGrath/Davidson/Lindwall/Lillee

You could even go to 5 with them if you wanted.

McGrath/Davidson/Lindwall/Lillee/Cummins

Marshall/Ambrose/Garner/Holding/Roberts

Steyn/Donald/Pollock/Rabada/Adcock

And ofc Windies can go to 6 pacers with Walsh.
