Michael Neser

Neser's batting average now double his bowling average (311 runs @ 51.83 and 19 wkts @ 25.63)

If Neser can't get in the squad as back-up pacer then he should replace Marsh as back-up all-rounder
Still not quite sure what happened at Hove on Day 1, but the remaining 3 days backed up the theory that it's not a bad track when it's sunny! 14 wickets Day 1, 16 wickets on the remaining 3 days. Glamorgan helped by the loss of Robinson, but as mentioned elsewhere, Woakes is the only other Ashes bowler who could have produced that innings from Neser.

Nes is 33 and you’d think that he’d be capable of playing CC until his late 30s

Selectors still insisting Hazlewood will be fine for WTC Final and Ashes

Seems they've learned nothing from adding an injured Hazlewood to the India series only to have him fly home

Should make him play a FC game first but impossible as zero tour games during the 6 upcoming tests

I can only hope they're saying that to put up an optimistic front. Playing him now would be a massive and totally unnecessary risk.

Neser has been replaced at Glamorgan by Mitchell Swepson

That should mean for sure Neser will finally be in the formal Ashes Squad for last 3 tests (instead of just training squad fodder). Hope he plays the 3rd Test as by the 4th he will not have played cricket for nearly 2 months (last played 18-21 May)

Not sure releasing him to play for Glamorgan is working out very well. Day 1 washed out, not even a complete over bowled on Day 2 yet and his side is batting anyway.

176 not out with the bat

Be parachuted in as the replacement opener for Warner after such a knock.

Mind Leicestershire bowling lineup is somewhat average. I hope two in Ackermann and Parkinson turn out better for Durham in hopefully Division one next season.

Interesting to find out making runs at 7 against a weak county attack apparently fully qualifies someone to be a Test opener, learn something new everyday I suppose

Seriously though, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Neser in the team for the 4th test, but let's not be ridiculous here, if he does play it absolutely is as a bowler first and foremost. His ability with the willow is definitely a good bonus to have but it isn't adequate reason to pick him in of itself

Yeah but if you drop Warner and play the two all rounders and have one of them open, then the depth Neser offers with the bat becomes a consideration. It's not as if we need to talk down his ton here to realise he's pretty handy with the bat.

yeah of the odd bunch on the list for potential openers for warner you'd want green or marn00s there before you'd want BIG NES

big nes should play in lieu of scobo rather than recalling haze

I wouldn't even remotely consider having one of the allrounders open in the first place though. Idea is a complete non starter as far as I am concerned

Which is precisely why I wouldn't drop him in first place

EDIT: hypothetically if a choice HAD to be made I would move Marnus up as a temporary stopgap option over promoting either Marsh (defense not good enough) or especially Green (not exactly flying himself, and at his age the risk of doing his career permanent damage is far too high). I would still not actually do that, but I hate it less than any other potential option I have seen floated around either here or elsewhere

Warner ain’t getting dropped - we all know this. NES in for Boland, let’s see how he goes. I think he will offer more than haze in a holistic sense

Yeah just to slightly clarify my earlier comments, Neser's batting as part of the reason to pick him over Hazlewood isn't at all unreasonable. It's the suggestions he could be picked in addition to four other bowlers on the basis of his batting I simply can't get behind
