Tamim retires (for one day) from international cricket

Great player when on song and an excellent servant of Bangladeshi cricket. He looked like he had a glittering career ahead of him after he smashed two utterly beautiful test centuries in England as well as a 151 against India as a 21 year old. Sadly he then failed to achieve his potential due to the appalling standards of professionalism and fitness and general low expectations that were typical of Bangladeshi cricket for much of his career.

Nevertheless, he was ****ing swashbuckling when on song, a genuinely good international standard batsman and watching him was one of the highlights of following Bangladesh. Probably the right decision to retire though as 2-3 years of injuries, surgeries and recoveries have taken their toll.

The best thing he can do for Bangladeshi cricket now is take up the microphone. The blokes we've got there now make my ****ing ears bleed and it's embarrassing having them represent us to the world. Would be nice to finally a former player there with a cricketing brain larger than a pea.

Really good player who I loved watch bat. Has an argument for Bangladesh's best bat. Those two England hundreds were iconic and though he didn't quite live up to that promise completely, still a more than decent career for an opener

Yeah, I rate him as their best test bat. Hope he gets deserved recognition in the future for being as important as he was for Bangladesh

Managed to do a more than respectable job in limited opportunities away from home too. Shame he never really got to tour Australia, or get a second shot at England after that great first series. Wonder how much he could've improved in an environment that gave him more room to branch out in more challenging conditions. Did feel like he had a game that translated quite well to most conditions.

Quality opener, and quietly one of the best openers of the past decade. Every team in the world would have picked him. I wish he was ours.

Didn't he start like really young ? 17 or something like that cause I remember him smashing India in the 2007 Cricket World Cup ..So he's been playing for atleast 16 years ..That's a long time , he's had a great career

The inside story is team management was not happy that he was in and out and declaring himself fit and unfit whenever he wanted. Everyone got confused about his health situation. Its true he’s very injury prone and all and we could not afford to continue like this series by series as hes also the captain of ODI team. About last match he declared that he’d decide about his fitness after playing the match which angered the board president and coach. The board president publicly said its not village cricket match that he’d decide about fitness after playing the match and that Coach Hathure complained about him over phone. This and his prior conflict with Shakib made the situation worse I think. Thats why the sudden retirement I’d guess becoming emotional and all. I think ppl will talk him over to turn up for the WC for last time.
