*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

Someone who is playing at that level should know not to saunter down the pitch when the ball isn't dead

And if that ball some how missed the bat and ran away to the deep, do you think they won't go for a run?
As I’ve said previously Bairstow isn’t faultless here, dozy cricket from him. If the ball missed the stumps and ricocheted off Bairstow, he would not have gone for the run, even though by the rules I’m sure he could have done. It’s that old spirit of cricket kinda thing.

England need to produce better pitches.
That’ll take a decade to sort

the ECB does not care a jot for the test team

all in for the white ball game. That’s shown by the way they have belittled the ashes by cramming it in a few weeks to allow for their bloody 100 to have peak summer

Not from Bairstow but ball missing everything and somehow going to deep

Mind you that it is extremely unlikely that would actually happening because its an underarm throw but my point being that if that ball missed every thing and ran away, he would have attempted a run so it won't necessarily dead to Bairstow either

I think there should be a rule change over the ball being dead , once the stumps have been hit and if it disappears for four that should be null and void

hate seeing a great piece of fielding going for underserved runs

I would have went for a run , no problem at all
Exactly so the ball won't be so dead to Bairstow either

Its all about its end benefit really. You can argue till cows come home about the spirit but if its helping you, you somehow will justify it

Ftr It didn't feel right to me either and so I think it was to Pat but certainly not wrong enough to put an Ashes win after 23 years on line

I’m not even sure they would to be fair, however, even if I thought they would that doesn’t really change anything.

Oh man. Couldn't watch all that much of today but it would have just been the greatest thing ever if Stokes had done it. Couldn't really care less about the Bairstow thing.

2-0 from these tests feels pretty **** and this England side is so infuriating because this could have been such a great series. I guess it still could be...

Totally agree. I’m an England fan and I’ve got absolutely no problem with the dismissal

I’d rather the press went after Crawley and his continued inability to perform than worrying over “spirit of the game “ crap

the 45 for 4 period lost this match

They did it for the wrong reasons but this time of year actually really works for the ashes as there is no Premier League football.

If Australia were 0-2 down my perspective might be different, but it's been a fairly good series so far hasn't it?

First test was a classic and this one had a ton of great moments and see-sawed both ways a fair few times.

Well I disagree. I have seen many times batsmen acting the way Jonny did before all of the sudden realizing a fielder has some how had a shy at the stumps and missed and they would at least attempt a run. They won't actually run most of the time but at least attempt it

Which means the batsman clearly changed the mind over the nature of the deadness of the ball

Agreed. Of course the results are depressing for an England fan but we’ve seen some all time great moments

smith. Khawaja, stokes and some cracking bowling spells by individuals

Of course there’s been a lot of dull play by both teams and I hate the bouncers and nine on the boundary tactic

it works but it’s crap to watch

Sure this has all been said already but Stokes is ridiculous isn't he. I can't think of anyone who can move from looking so awkward to someone superhuman in the space of one innings.
I’ve watched him since his debut for Durham and he has done this for most of his career
