Predict the year we’ll see the implementation of AI umpiring

Hawkeye is AI umpiring imo, so 2009.
Basically true. Which is why I’m wondering if we’ll cross over sometime in the next 5-10 years to a system that incorporates Hawkeye, no balls, and ultra edge/snicko instantaneously, thereby making on field umpires more or less redundant

2030 is my prediction. Tennis will probably try it first and cricket will note how it goes. I imagine that one in field umpire would remain to keep order, check for transgressions, hear appeals and relay the result to the players.

Not AI, but what happened to the third umpire being totally in charge of monitoring all deliveries for no-balls and calling if needed? Is that still happening?

There seems to be an increased incidence of no balls (and relatively late-called no balls) in the Ashes compared to previous English test summers so I presume it is happening.

No that's been happening in this series, that's why you sometimes hear the commentators "calling" no balls before the umpire signals them (like with the no-ball wicket of Root and Stokes getting Cummins off a no ball too)

This would involve an algorithm that has to accomodate all the features possible that influences an umpiring decision. We won't see that in a long time.

The technology exists at present. The drawback to making all decisions automated would be time. If every appeal was referred to technology it would slow the game down even further.
