wouldn't you just love it if the imploding Leicestershire somehow managed to get promoted after losing three of their players and putting their head coach on gardening leave.

I would indeed be amused. Strange that, whatever happened there, it happened this season when they are doing better than they have for some time.

Except they have lost all bar 2 T20 matches. Although, priorities might not be everything.

This seems as good a time as any to suggest that we're not really as invincible as some would have people believe.
Yep. Clearly this defeat justifies the signing of Dan Lawrence.

Also, Kent do have a few things going for them - a 300* for Bell-Drummond in an innings win against Northants just the latest. I think they've got a reasonable batting line-up, just perhaps a lack of penetration on the bowling side.

From a Kiwi perspective, I'm not sure Durham will persist with Ray Toole after 25 overs 0 wickets for over a hundred.

fwiw I'm not happy about the Lawrence signing either (and not because I was hoping for Porter or Cook really).
Not as unhappy as your good self, but I do think that it stinks.

As for Kent, they're not terrible by any means, but Surrey's batting failed in the first innings against them, so the signs were there, even if they turned it around in the 2nd innings. Bell-Drummond? Talented, but his career average doesn't lie. As I say, they're OK, but having to chase 501 doesn't fit the narrative that we're always reading about Surrey being so outstanding. Obviously we're decent, and we may yet win the CC, but just offering a bit of perspective really.

Well I guess it had to happen eventually, still have a very healthy lead though.

I guess Essex could be a threat, especially if we see more spin over the next few weeks.

England looking to fast track Tawanda Muyeye's citizenship so he can play Tests. He's progressing nicely, hopefully he'll replace Crawley (who can then join Kent seconds).

SUSSEX HAVE ANNOUNCED that former England allrounder Ravi Bopara will leave the club after not being offered a contract extension.

Bopara joined from Essex on a white-ball contract at the end of 2019 and captained Sussex's T20 side for the last two seasons. At the start of the summer, new head coach Paul Farbracetargeted a place at Finals Day, but Sussex eventually finished sixth in the South Group, missing out on the quarter-finals.

Bopara, 38, enjoyed his best Blast season since 2014, scoring 408 runs at a strike rate of 146.23 and recording a career-best 108 against Kent. He did, however, have to sit out Sussex's trip to the Ageas Bowl after arriving after the start time.

He indicated that he would be looking for a new county, "as I have a great deal more to offer to the game as a player".
