Captains who sucked in one format but excelled in another

I mention Dhoni as an example of a great LOI captain but a horribly defensive test captain.

Are there others who were similarly lopsided?

Ponting seemed pretty similar IMO. Seemed a much sharper mind tactically in ODI's.

dhoni overseas was defensive. his captaincy in home tests was awsome
classic case of the results determining our outlook of what makes a good captain imo

just as 8-0 doesn't make him a bad captain (i'm putting that RP Singh call up on the selectors), dominating at home with a really strong team for those conditions doesn't make him a great one.

i think he was fine overall in tests, despite the few games he let slip overseas.

excellent LO captain though - master of damage control with limited resources.

Granted we were a poor ODI outfit whoever was in charge. But he was an excellent Test captain for us but his ODI captaincy was not good enough to merit such a mediocre ODI batsman playing.
