*Official* English Football Season 2022/23

As someone who doesn't watch Chelsea play, hasn't he been an utter flop there?
Chelsea played him more as an out and out striker which he patently isn't. Whenever I've watched Chelsea he comes across as one who is at least putting in 100%, just being played out of position. I could see him fitting more into an Arsenal system, but not sure he's that dissimilar to Trossard.

New fixtures are out but it seems like this season is still ongoing until the end of the international break (stupid Qatar) so do we wait with a new thread?

Like, he's a notoriously poor finisher isn't he? Dropping 60m on him a rather large risk to me

It does seem like a triumph of optimism over experience, yeah.

At least when we spunked £72m on Pepe (who it seems we now literally can't give away) he hadn't hung around stinking up the Prem for three seasons beforehand.

I suppose his age (still only 23 I think) is maybe a factor in his seemingly inflated price.

Pepe was the dodgiest deal in Dodgy Raul's tenure here tbf.

Probably not favourites given that City are a juggernaut and have the Haaland factor. But yeah, those three transfers + addition of a defender who isn't Rob Holding would make it a very successful summer imo.

yeah that’s fair enough. It’s good you lot are trying to do your business early - that’s a good sign. Who would be a defender available?

I think the Pepe deal was pretty dodgy for non-footballing reasons too tbf.
Yup, as were most of his deals one way or another. I mean, given his obvious quality, loaning Saliba straight back to St Etienne for two seasons after spending (IIRC) ~£25m on him looks strange to say the least.
