English Domestic Season 2023

I think I read that he wasn't considered a like for like replacement with regards his batting (FC average of 19 v Lakmal's 11) so therefore wasn't allowed to bat. There's some weird rules around.
Thanks, given the relative ease that Bess and Masood knocked off the runs this morning, perhaps it wasn't material. I assume decisions like this are referred back to the ECB and taken in a dark room somewhere on the qt.

Could be a key day in the title race, with Surrey looking on track to complete a huge chase, while Warwickshire are struggling to break through Notts. At the start of the day, to say you'd have rather been in Warwickshire's position would have been an understatement.

Sibley with the slowest ever championship hundred.
Fantastic to see a player able to bat for 8.5 hours to get a century.
If it ends in a record run chase, then it was a perfect performance for the situation.

After all that Surrey have just hit 40 runs off the last three overs!

Well batted Sibley and Foakes, a gentle reminder to England...

I said that the pitch at Canterbury looked flat.

Seriously, a tremendous come from behind win for Surrey which underlines their status as champions. Plenty of determination being shown by teams in the second innings in this round.

This. The likeliest outcome a day and a half ago was that Warwickshire would be close to Surrey's points total with a game in hand. Instead, there's a fair bit of daylight between the teams now. Good time for Joe Clarke to provide his all-too-occasional demonstration that he is capable of being a serious cricketer. And I suppose I ought to acknowledge that Sibbers has made a mockery of my comments about him on Day 2. Maybe he read them and, very politely, thought he'd show me the error of my ways.

Disappointing that Worcestershire couldn't get the win against Sussex, but probably batted just a tad too slowly earlier to make it very easy

Pitches are bone hard due to the extreme heat and lack of rain in June.

No wonder all right games went to a 4th day.

Surrey have selected actual batsmen for their Championship game I see. Sensible, but boring.
.... and next year they will be able to select Dan Lawrence. Just signed a 3 year deal after turning down Essex extension. Will he go to Surrey on loan for the rest of the season as per the (recent) norm?

No stopping Surrey next year either, then.

****ing Surrey. Despise them as a County doing this ****. Like they need another imported player. Money talks, hmmm.

It's the same old story.
I hadn't realised his highest score of 161 was against Surrey at the Oval and he has scored over 800 FC runs against Surrey including 3 tons.
Clubs must note these things down so that they sign them later on. "Proof of ability on their ground." Maybe it's also player related, they have happy memories playing against Surrey at the Oval so happy when approached by them.
Same with Jordan Clark HS 140 against Surrey at the Oval. Average against Surrey over 52 more runs scored against Surrey than any other county. Career average about half that.
Clearly doesn't happen all the time, but seems to happen frequently. Can't be coincidence. Surrey were happy to sign Foakes without a great record against them.

Not that it will interest many on here, no doubt, but I couldn't help noticing that Derbyshire 2nds won the County 2nd XI T20 finals day at Arundel. Always a good day out before I moved back up North.

Derbyshire won the semi final at a stroll and then a closer final. With both games arguably won by Leus du Plooy 67 from 40 balls in the final and 72 from 46 balls in the semi. Du Plooy in the Second XI T20 Trophy, what a joke. Allowed to play as he had played 4 of their 10 group matches no doubt. Not sure which is worse him playing 40% of the group stages to enable finals day qualification or him dominating Arundel.

As a Durham fan , I’m happy to see my lads top of Division two. We are getting back to our levels from earlier this century after FTECB tried to finish the club off

we are coming to get the big boys again

I was just looking at Cricinfo, and the Blast match today, (The only one scheduled), between Essex & Somerset is being played at Leicester.

Is this correct, if so why ?, is this an Essex home match, if so, why can't they find a ground in the South of England to play it.
