I don't think there was tampering by sandpaper in 17/18. If there was it would have been done so expertly as to escape all detection. It would be hard to believe after such deceptive artfulness they would have descended to such a farcical level of clumsiness in SA.
No one knows if there was ball tampering in 2017 (well some do). But we know damn well there was in 2018 and a simple implication from Broad seems to wind the Aussies up more than a nick to first slip.

Nothing Broad has said concerns me. I don’t go and seek out his opinions and was unaware of anything he said about it until you mentioned it here.

What seems clear is there is a gathering number of English fans who are ok with Murray mints but bawl “hand of God” about 17/18.

A gathering number? You see, that's simply not true. We didn't give a monkeys about 2017/18, we got thrashed, we were rubbish. I don't care if the Aussie team cheated or not, wouldn't have made a difference. But we know they did cheat a few months later, the implication that it wasn't necessarily the first time they might have done so clearly makes a lot of Australians both defensive and uncomfortable.

As for 2005, it seems a large number of Aussies who were used to always winning suddenly found defeat difficult to handle. If only all were as gracious as their star man that series.

Warne?

He was very gracious after 2005 but was a terrible loser throughout his career if any criticism was directed at him

Neser now the standout allround performer of the English summer, yet won’t even make the Aussie test side, such will be our complete dominance over the hapless English outfit

Neser can bat & is obviously light years better than the dross we trotted out in the tail in India

Would be very handy in the Ashes but he doesn’t fit the profile looked for by our national selectors

It's a good thing. Now if we lose we can claim it's because our best English-conditions player was left out, not because we weren't as good at cricket

It's possible it's not even Neser anyway. Judged on yesterday's efforts, Dan Worrall would've been a useful call up too. But that bird has definitely flown now.

In fact, I'm wondering if he might actually qualify for the English team now with his British Passport.
