English Domestic Season 2023

Pretty impressive career record, really - could he be considered unlucky to have never had an England call-up?
Not really. He lacked the pace needed for international cricket. He even admitted that himself.

Chris Rushworth always used to get loads of wickets against Hampshire.

Seems like he's still doing it with his new county.
Decent signing by Warwickshire; he and Woakes must be one of the best opening pairs in the division.

Elsewhere, I wonder how brave Essex are feeling with a potential declaration. My guess is they'll aim to invite Surrey to chase 275-300 in three hours or so.

Hampshire 8 down now. Minor point of interest, with Vince unbeaten on 0, is what's the lowest score for a number 4 batsman carrying his bat when his team is all out.

I think that he belongs in that category who might have got a few caps on a ‘horses for courses’ basis in the 80s or 90s but is considered to lack the pace desired nowadays.

273 it is, at 5 an over. That should be safe enough even allowing for Pope's evisceration of Hampshire when chasing a slightly smaller target a couple of weeks ago. Credit Essex for having a real crack at the Surrey attack to try and leave enough time to bowl them out.

OMG! Umpires at Derbyshire phoning HQ to see if they need 54 runs off one over or 3 overs.

Lol

I can only think that they had a collective brain freeze, such as that at the 2007 World Cup Final. It was evident to everyone else that there was only one over left.

It all came about when somebody at the ground ( I don't know who) said that the two overs taken off for change of innings didn't apply in the last hour of a match. This of course was ridiculous. I've seen plenty if games where such s situation arose and the two overs were always deducted. I'm amazed that first class umpires did not know this.

Maybe I'm just viewing with Durham tinted specs

But Rushy same speed as Philander/Robinson and Jimmy of recent years.

Watched Overton and Ball delivering it at 80-82 and doing absolutely nothing with it. Rushy infinitely more skilled than the pair of them who both made their debuts the summer after he was named PCA cricketer of the year.

Guess selectors didn't want 2 Jimmy style bowlers. But there's no way Rushy ends up averaging over 100 like Ball has on his record.

The other thing that went against him he is he was also a number 11 with the bat. He was a 9 he'd have got a chance guaranteed.

Duhan have Yorkshire 211/9 after Yorkies elected to bat. Excellent by Durham.

Glorious sunshine in the NE today. Not so much tomorrow.
