The Hundred could be scrapped

How does that solve anything?
My objection to the hundred was that it created new teams and mixed up the players. The different format was merely the icing on the cake.

Do those who have attended matches get the idea that the hundred has genuinely attracted new people to the game or simply cannibalised the blast ‘fun evening out for the family in mid summer’ audience?

I never quite understood where the format came from - was it dreamed up through a coffee and cocaine fuelled all-nighter between the ECB and some marketing consultants or a fudge to appease the counties who didn't want a franchise competition to threaten the Blast?

I'd welcome it simply being converted to a franchise T20 with the Blast turned into that expanded CC + MC league competition.

I haven't attended any, but I know quite a few who have (always with kids) and they're not regular cricket goers at all.

I'm still of the opinion that it was a format concocted with the BBC to try and squeeze a game into 3 hours.

I still don't get why they didn't just make The Blast a franchise tournament. CC already has 2 overseas slots per team, just make it 3 or 4 for the T20 comp.

Maybe there are examples from sports I don’t follow that prove me wrong, but franchise models just don’t fit British sporting culture for me. I’ve only ever been half hearted in ‘supporting’ Lancashire because I’m from the wrong side of the Mersey to be from historic Lancashire. I certainly am not getting behind ‘Manchester Originals’. When I watched the games I ostensibly rooted for the Superchargers purely because they had Stokes which I guess is the point in franchise model, but it meant nothing.

It might be to the detriment of the overall quality but it is what it is, a small amount of teams are never going to get enough organic support to make it a roaring success
Yeah agree 100%.

You can't just create teams and then slap the name of a random town (because let's face it, "Manchester Originals" would be ditched and moved to Southend or somewhere if there was as little as a whiff of this being more profitable) on them and tell people they must care about them.

This isn't helped by the fact that the branding is so heavily linked to packets of crisps tbh. I can never remember which team is which. Whenever I've watched anyway I've just took the approach of "Ah it's Quavers against Skips" today, or whatever.

In fact come to think about it, if the teams were just representing packets of crisps rather than supposedly representing places, I think I would have cared about it more ironically.

This issue aside though, I hope it is binned regardless. It's a ****ing idiotic format that added/adds nothing (nothing good anyway) to what we had already.

Franchises are really hard to get fanbases rolling initially in established sporting landscapes, especially outside cities. You need a generation of kids to grow up watching them. They also vampire support for the already established sides. The counties are correct to hate the franchises.

If you want people to unite a franchise system and also meet the demands of CW posters for a greatly reduced number of games then just have teams for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Throw in Channel Islands and Isle of Mann if we're feeling generous.

This would actually be great. Could offer the Scots independence if they won as something to motivate them. But total fealty to Westminster if they didn't.

Obviously we'd have to make sure the Scottish team's finances were heavily audited
