ODI Descending Draft

CricAddict

Cricketer Of The Year
Just out of interest, did anyone consider that well known Papua New Guinean wicket-keeper Geraint Jones?
Didn't consider him since I already had Flower but I did consider Dirk Nannes and Roelof Van Der Merwe. In the end, went for Simi Singh since he has done better than both of them for a longer time in ODIs.

Ideally would have wanted a bit more depth in the pace attack although I do think spin is a huge factor in limited overs matches, more so than Tests. In Mujeeb have someone who is comfortable opening the bowling and boasts an economy of 5.6 or under v all nations apart from Australia. Similarly Boyd Rankin goes at 5.03 an over v top 9 nations. Steyn a quality bowler, Jadeja an expert at keeping the runs down (economy under 5 in this era of ODIs!). Muralitharan despite being the 6th bowler will bowl all 10 overs but will be used primarily in the 2nd half of the innings as teams try to accelerate their innings. Sobers and Stokes provide plenty of quality bowling options to choose between as well with Stirling and Viv backup bowling options too. Very happy with the batting, could probably have a bit more batting at number 8 but happy with the top 7.

I will post a voting thread over the weekend, probably Saturday night UK time - will post a link here when I have made the voting thread.

Please post your team in batting order here if you have not done so already.

Thanks all for participating and making this a smooth draft.

In terms of players not someone really considered as I wanted Viv but rate Ranatunga highly. Lloyd was someone I did seriously consider. Hogg briefly considered. Zaheer Abbas not being picked up a surprise as well in retrospect!

Yeah, was super focused on the pre95 rule, kept a spot for Zaheer Abbas as I noticed everyone had pretty much shored up their batting first. But ****ed up by picking 8 non minnow players up front

Sobers is an interesting selection. A gather it was based on reputation and Test performances rather than his effort in his only ODI appearance (a duck and 1 for 31). His economy rate was pretty good in that match.

Any plans for another year of these with different criteria? I love the strategy involved with the pick order

Not immediately but perhaps - I did consider doing a T20 version of this so might do that at some point. Maybe a chronology Test draft with an added proviso of max 500 Tests in the XI (plucking a number out the air) but yeah nothing planned in immediate future.

Thanks Hookshot - made finding each teams XI much easier
