rahm saves the tour's blushes...liv comes in second, 3 liv-ers in the top 5...

having said that, augusta is a place where players who know the course really well and have contended or won in the past can come in without a lot of practice and still perform at a high level, i guess to a certain extent the open championship is also like that...would be interesting to see how liv players perform at the u.s open and the pga championship...

Worth remembering the huge draw bias in the second round. I have no doubt that had Mickelson been drawn in the other half he would not have made the cut. That Rahm was on the bad side, double bogeyed his very first hole and still won by 4 was astonishing.

No surprise to see Reed play well. He was close in Dubai earlier this year (always a good pointer to Augusta) and has previous here. The problem for LIV golfers is that until they change their format of play they will not get World Ranking points, so only former champions are likely to play the Majors soon.

As for Koepka, I suspect this is a little reminder of what he's missing. If his body was this fit 2 years ago and he didn't have a dopey brother whose not as good as golf as him, I doubt he'd have left. The rumours of him wanting to PGA return will only get stronger now.

Good stuff from Fitzpatrick there, nearly holed his second at the third play-off hole, all the better as the septic crowd were pretty base.

Good on Fitzpatrick

Obviously wrong but for some reason I had the feeling that he was going to be a higher level version of Willet

Quality player but rungs below the top guys

How is he rungs below the top guys? He's won a US Open and now an elevated event (all the big PGA boys bar McIlroy were there) in the last year. When he gets the chance to win he's pretty ruthless. He's a significantly better golfer than Willett (and far better person too).

I think social’s saying he thought he’d turn out like Willett (rung below the top guys), which he didn’t

Just out of interest, what makes Willett not a good person? I haven't heard anything overly negative about him, (and just did a quick google search, but nothing too sinister came up). The only thing I found was his brother's comments about Americans, which seemed fairly on point when you look at American golf crowds. Or at Bryson Dechambeau.

Yeah without looking at the rankings I'd have him comfortably top 3 Europeans and just about top 20 in the world
He's now Number 8 and higher than Spieth, Thomas and Morikawa. He was the Number 4 European but the win took him above Hovland.

But with the Ryder Cup in mind, Europe have 5 in the Top 20, US has 12.

Poor choice of words, he's not a bad person, just a bit of an annoying ****. Think Graeme Swann type....

I'm still not quite sure how he won a Masters, but there's been a few odd winners over the years.

Golf is one of those games where not always the best player wins

Think that we’ve all seen tournaments where some random has the tournament of their life before fading away e.g. Shaun Micheel

The Open has thrown up some odd ones too like Curtis and Hamilton. Even the wins for the likes of Els and Clarke at the back end of their careers were pretty unlikely.

2016 was an odd year, 4 first time Major winners, only DJ has won another since.

Clarke was obviously a good player but that Open was just meant to be

He hit a number of shots which could have ended in disaster on another day

Scott gifted Els that Open

He wouldn't be the first person to benefit from a Major gift.....off the top of my head, in recent years the likes of Willett, Cink, Schwartzel, Thomas, Kaymer, Spieth have all benefitted from a leader throwing it away on the back 9.....a number of those on the final hole. And that's without the most famous choke of all in Van de Velde.

Scott & Norman are 2 of the biggest underachievers in the history of golf when it comes to majors

Par score for either of them should have been 4-5 each

Scott is the 5th highest earner in history and cannot putt at all

That’s the weirdest part about his game

No yips but just a terrible putter

One of the all time great swings so has earned $70 million

Agreed, but for different reasons. Norman was a choker, Scott just can't putt. The fact he's still using a belly putter now even though you can't anchor it sums him up. It also goes to show that the phrase 'drive for show, putt for dough' is a load of bollocks. There have been plenty of good putters who have won nothing because their long game wasn't up to scratch. But even the worst putters will normally have their day if the rest of the game is like Scott's.

It's also fair to say that one of them is rather more likable than the other too.
