Has Grant Bradburn got a permanent job coaching Pakistan, or is it temporary? I wonder if he'd be interested in the NZ job. Not that NZC should be ageist but he may be (seen as) a bit on the old side to be a realistic option though.

Imran Khan refused to play in the 1990 series when Hadlee, Sweden & Bracewell had retired and Wright and Jones didn't go. David White opened the batting in the tests.
But we had Pringle and bottle tops.

Apart from Crowe that was men (peak 2 Ws) against boys.

Main risk for Pakistan this series looks like boredom. This would be a tricky tour with NZ's first XI... though I guess there's no point repeating what others have said about NZ's squad and team.

I can't resist restating though how much I hate the role they've given Rachin in this team - batting at 7 is an absolute joke.

So all in on Chapman to give us some small thing to take away from the T20 series, hopefully something more from the ODIs.

I actually think Lister is worth a shot. Can swing it and can hit a yorker. Useful in both power play and at the death. Looked quite useful with transferable skills - when I've seen him in SS. Questions would be with his pace.

Now, this post could be 6 months out of date and maybe he has already shown he's not up to it in the white-ball tour to pak/ind back a few months ago? I have no recollection of performances then, nor watched any of it.
I thought he had been fairly good in the super smash over the years, but domestic LO-specialist (he rarely plays FC) bowlers don't typically graduate to international level very well imo. Or more snarkily, he ould be the next Lance Hamilton or Paul Hitchcock. Still, there's noone else I necessarily would prefer to see there, he does have a couple of skills you mention (LH, swing, yorker), so good luck to him.

While on bowlers though, this series looks another reminder that Shipley, like Jamieson who he most resembles, is a red-ball bowler at the moment. Maybe he's just there under the 'all international experience is good experience' rule.

Shipley's been the best bowler in the super smash over the past 2 years and just got MOTS vs sri lanka in an odi series. Don't think you can write him off as a white ball bowler because of a few bad t20 games.

Lister is an FC bowler iirc, he just always seems to get injured / be sick at the wrong time. It would be madness for Auckland to not select him, when the likes of Ferns and ter Braak always occupy at least one spot in their XI.

Hi all,

I'm a new Cricket fan and have been enjoying matches, especially the IPL. Will today's Pakistan-New Zealand match be another lopsided score? From what I've read, New Zealand has mostly a B team. What happens in today's match?

Haha yeah Lister is a much better red ball bowler than Ferns. There's a huge gap there. He's right though that Lister would get less opportunities at Canterbury or Central.

I'm not surprised Shipley is struggling in Pakistan/India. Sri Lanka just melted against his vicious bounce and swing at Eden Park and Hagley (which are perfect places for him to bowl), but without watching a ball of this particular series I doubt there is much bounce or swing on offer and he isn't exceptionally quick, accurate or have a stack of variations.

There's probably a white ball bowler in there because he did come back well against India(?) to nail some good death bowling in an ODI after a disastrous start. He would definitely be more comfortable as a SENA bully for now though, especially against subcontinental sides who will be less experienced against his height and movement.

I'm not writing him off forever, just like I wouldn't write off Jamieson turning into a good white-ball bowler eventually. But skillset at the moment looks very red-ball to me - bowling from height an awkward length around offstump with a little nibble (which is why I've been pumping his tyres for the NZ test team for a while).

I know this has come up before and maybe you're right, though seems an awful lot of injury/bad luck to explain the gaps in his FC record the last four seasons, if he wasn't just left out or otherwise engaged. While he's been a List A and Super Smash fixture for Auckland pretty much the whole time.

why not have chapman at 1 down?
Yeah despite this innings from Latham, NZ probably better off having Young, Ravindra, Chapman in the top 3. Or maybe even give Neesham a shot at building an innings. Don’t think Bowes is up to it.

They really should have a slip in for Milne the way the over has been going, but take the wicket any which way. New ball wickets NZ’s best chance really.

Shaheen ahead of Ifthikar is the sort of boneheaded move Pakistan specialise in from time to time. Likely brought about by panic induced from a solid bowling effort though.
