He wasn't happy with what looked to be one of the most plumb LB's in history ? when he was batting.Kuggeleijn bowled one or two good balls but is a **** and bled runs too
Maybe he got an inside edge, otherwise yeah that's salmon. He wasn't happy with what looked to be one of the most plumb LB's in history ? when he was batting.
That 28yr old is the second youngest in the side, but yeah I just don't see it with O'Donnell. Heh, also just realised the NZ A squad does have four younger players in it, just that whoever selected the XI (Stead?) left all four on the bench.Hate to be mean but I don't see what we gain from fielding a 35 averaging 28 year old specialist batsman at #6 instead of shooting for the stars a bit and giving Clarkson or Abbas a run.
Injuries and the IPL depleted this side a lot (by drawing a lot of A team players into the ODI and T20 side) but a couple of selections are still a bit bland imo.

Three on the bench = Hay 22, Ashok 20, O'Rourke 21. Foxcroft 24 in the playing XI.That 28yr old is the second youngest in the side, but yeah I just don't see it with O'Donnell. Our premier A opener is currently a #7 slogger in the T20 side. That 28yr old is the second youngest in the side, but yeah I just don't see it with O'Donnell. Also, it's completely pointless making Solia open the batting - he's done it for Auckland when they have noone else and has usually failed miserably because he is a 6 or 7. M Hay is in the XV, he should open.
I'm obv biased but given John Bracewell described him as swings it both ways at 135kph that's much more interesting to me than Kuggs, Tickner et al. Well worth a look at the A level. There's also Randell at 27 (though possibly still concussed?), who is younger than everyone in the XI bar Foxcroft.
They wanted a sub-30 batter, though, and he fits the bill. Also, it's completely pointless making Solia open the batting - he's done it for Auckland when they have noone else and has usually failed miserably because he is a 6 or 7. M Hay is in the XV, he should open.
I was so exhaustingly exasperated by the 11 that I didn't even bother to rant about that one. I ranted about the squad, which was about 75% better than the eventual final 11 they f*&king-well rolled out.Heh, also just realised the NZ A squad does have four younger players in it, just that whoever selected the XI (Stead?) left all four on the bench.
Yeah Ravindra's role in the NZ T20 team atm is very odd. Though hey he hit a couple of dingerzz. Mariu is probably just not quite as far along as M Hay so the latter should have played. Solia can go to 6 and O'Donnell drop out. For other youth alongside Hay and Mariu, there's also Parkes, Abbas and Chu with 400+ FC runs this season. Our premier A opener is currently a #7 slogger in the T20 side.
I think Solia is a decent player but I agree, I don't think we'd ever want him to open in tests or ODIs. Auckland probably prefer him lower down in an ideal world too.
May as well give Mariu a look while his confidence is high and there is little local intel on him. We did it with Ravindra, who made his FC debut for NZ A. Alternatively Jeet Raval has been putting in knocks for a redemption arc.
I wouldn't be surprised if they picked the first 11-12 players based on FC games played. Length seems to matter atm
