I don't mind A teams picking guys of national interest straight out of age group. Domestic teams have their own internal needs (winning) and pecking orders that can limit the growth of a high ceiling player.

We did it with Ravindra to remove him from a Wellington side with a history of taking the piss and we're doing it with O'Rourke in this series who would be 4th or 5th choice at Canterbury.

O'Rourke played all 8 games for Canterbury this season. I think he's 3rd, after Henry Shipley. Davey too might now be ahead of him, but the point remains that he's in Canterbury's best XI* (because their use of players is consistently good, if team balance is consistently a bowler many).

O'Rourke is a legit pick for this squad.and you're well under rating him in the Canterbury pecking order . Hes played every match. Probably in national top 5 wicket takers in the PS standings this season, without looking it up . Not saying hes been outstanding, but solid.

I rate him. Didn't realise it was every game. Assumed with their success that Henry, Shipley, Sheat and Nuttall would be the order. Davey poking his head in now too.

Only watched a few balls before seeing Ward get bowled leaving to Solia, who is an incredibly blah looking bowler. Disappointing, looks like we have another batsman who can't convert - eight fifties to one century now.

Solia opening the batting for us is admirable but he's definitely a test #7 imo and potentially a decent one. I'm not as cold on him as some here.

Smith would be better though as a 7 and it would be great if Abbas could be a genuine allrounder/batting allrounder (although world class bat would be good too).

Lol G S Kohil, a link to the NZC live scoring/you tube feed site would have been suffice.

Sean is a top quality bloke who has made the most of his talent, but if he's going to bat 7 in Tests he has to be a viable bowling option, and he isn't. Lots of better options for that spot.

I know he's objectively crap and at times wiiiiildly inaccurate, but he does average 21 in Plunket stuff since the PS and it's hilarious when he bananas a wicket. Be fun to see him play tests imo. But there are better options, definitely.

I wonder what the end game is for NZ with this NZ A team of players on the cusp of qualifying fir vintage cricket? What cycle are we working to? Are we going to enter a killer team in the World Masters Games in 4 years? David White comes into the 11 as the only change, for the ineligible (on age) Foxcroft?
