I know Darren Stevens wanted to continue playing or as a player/coach role.
Anybody heard if he's likely to get another gig, he could certainly still do a job as he showed last year in one-day cricket.

A lot of counties will be losing players during the Hundred.

Not heard anything so not looking promising at this point of the year unless he gets a turn as a ‘consultant’ which seems increasingly common.

On the Hundred, it was a pity to see so many of the Glamorgan players who were involved in winning the 50over cup in 2021 being released.

Shocked to see Leics released Hassan Azad he averaged 50 odd in 2021 I believe.

But seen he's not played any white ball and not exactly much funds at leics to keep a red ball specialist.

Durham have signed Kunehmann was supposed to be Murphy but unsure if injured.

Although Durham hopeful Murphy to come later in the season.

A week before the first round of matches and it's basically been raining for a month, loads more in the forecast between now and then too. How many of the grounds will be playable? A good thing there's no game at Worcester.

Is this the year the Sussex boys become men? Probably not....but hoping to see a fair amount of Ollie Robinson before the Ashes.

A sad sign of the times I’m afraid. I read that Azad has been given a trial at Northants.

I have read much criticism of the state of the outfield at Taunton.

And Northants have signed him on a short-term contract, with Emilio Gay out with injury to start the season.
Might be a very astute signing, because he has great stickabilty

good to see Zain Ul Hassan get his first 1XI professional contract with Glamorgan. He was tiny when I played with him at Worcestershire academy

I'm surprised he got one. When i've seen him play (Not much i grant you) he looked a good club player but not Professional standard. Good luck to Zain

Interesting season for Sussex, and my hopes are cautiously high. The headline-grabbers are overseas batsmen of the highest quality in Smith and Pujara, but Smith will only play 3 games (at most) and Pujara won't win you promotion single-handedly. More importantly there is a crop of good young players, and a serious new head coach to lead them in Paul Farbrace (replacing Ian Salisbury, who sadly was to county coaching what he was to Test bowling).

My prediction? Mid-table mediocrity :(

Glad to see we've picked up Azad. I was baffled when Leics let him go. Apart from Ackermann he's been their only half decent championship player for the last few years.

Northants have also signed Lance Morris, albeit only for three games, which should be interesting.

So what are everyone's rash predictions for the season? I think Surrey are going to be very hard to beat in Div 1. Essex don't seem to have strengthened their slightly flaky batting, but they'll be contenders along with Lancs and maybe Notts. I'll be optimistic and say Kent and Middlesex for the drop ahead of Northants. Think Somerset and Warks could struggle again.

Div 2 seems very open to me. The only thing I can confidently predict is Leics coming bottom.

Can't disagree with that. I suspect we'll score plenty of runs - Haines, Orr and Alsop is a decent top 3 before you add in the overseas stars. But I just don't see where the wickets will come from once Robinson heads off to the Ashes. Hopefully a full season for Carson though who is already on the England radar.

I was very impressed by Scott Currie towards the end of last season, and Sean Hunt looks a decent bowler too. Not so enamoured of Crocombe or Garton though.
