Both Rohit and Kohli are past their peak .
Problem is none of India’s young batsmen are giving performance like Rohit or Kohli of 10 years ago .
Gill, Rahul and Surya all have flopped big time with the bat .
Yeah that's the real problem, it does feel like everyone is still just leaning on the same few established guys to perform and they don't quite know what to do or haven't quite yet got the mentality to just get it done themselves and take control rather than leaving it to the big boys again.

Now each of New Zealand, England and Australia have won a series in Asia this year. And all of them have figured out who their frontline spinners and spin bowling all rounders are. They've got the crux of the right team balance figured out. Meanwhile, India doesn't know what to do with its gun ARs and Pakistan is looking at Imad Wasim or Nawaz as second spinner.

Thats harsh on Gill .Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not this good at 23 years old ..I mean he already has a double hundred in odi cricket ..He shouldn't be grouped with Rahul and Yadav he's like almost a decade younger and has started odi cricket better than any Indian batsmen , it's just a road bump ...He just needs to mature a little .

India’s problem is lack of great batsmen. We haven’t produced any great batsmen since Rohit/Kohli . Basically a decade without any great young batsmen. Now it is showing in results and it will continue to show in future.

Dhawan was a vital cog in that top order. With Right getting less and less consistent you need a prime Dhawan up top more than ever but he fell off a cliff at exactly the same time.

A 23 years old Kohli played Hobart knock against a very good Srilankan attack. I won’t believe in Gill unless he does well against a decent attack . Scoring runs against SL attack or 2nd string NZ attack doesn’t count.

I don't like defending Rahul that much but he did produce a match winning knock in the 1st ODI and his numbers as a middle order batsman are fine. However yeah the rest of the post is solid, Rohit and Kohli are past their peak and the newbies are not setting the world on fire.

Any chance of Pant in the world cup? He fixes so much issues with the odi team

Pant isn’t playing cricket atleast in 2023.

But Gill has started well in ODI cricket that cannot be argued , he averages 60 he needs to be given the chance to prove himself on World Cup stage ..Pant averages almost half that and apparently he fixes the Indian team if he comes back ..

India has super talented batsmen but they aren't given a chance in the side. For a long time India's top 3 picked itself ...1.Rohit 2.Dhawan 3.Kohli ...then Dhoni in middle order ..So youngsters need time to get used to being the main guys .

Let’s hope you are right and this loss gives the players a necessary wake up call .

Mr. Glass
Shaw is sitting duck against incoming ball . They are right not to pick him .

Sundar should play ahead of Jadeja or Axar . Both can’t play in the same team.
okay then jaiswal

our issues in odis are many

we do not have any top order or middle order batsman who can bowl a few overs. even if they could we do not have a captain who would use them. rohit is tactically average to put it mildly and so is the coaching team. what we need is to rohit to do what is best for the team and move to middle order so that we have a number 4 who can handle spin in an asian world cup year. he will retire soon anyway in a year maximum so his position does not matter anymore. it will quickly fix lots of issues in the side. we know what this means. its time. for my daily xi.

world cup xi should be something like

jaiswal 7
gill
kohli
rohit
rahul +
hardik 3
jaddu 5
sundar 6
kuldeep 4
shami 2
siraj/bumrah 1
