Amazing how quickly CW attitude on Henry has gone from 'nah you don't add much, you average over 40 and we can do a lot better' to 'for the love of god don't get injured, you're one of our only two fit and competent seamers'.Tbf, Henry's averaged 28 since taking over new ball responsibilities v SA last year.
Macewell 0*Will be nice if Dacewell and Macewell can put on a 100 partnership.
yeah I was always a critic (in a "his stats basically reflect his performance and you can't demand the selection of a guy like that" way) and I still think he is kinda limited tbh. Still struggle to see him as an effective bowler if the pitch is flat or slow or basically in scenarios where a change of tactics is needed. Nevertheless he has definitely improved his test match bowling when prevented with reasonably favourable conditions, which in itself is probably more than I had expected.Amazing how quickly CW attitude on Henry has gone from 'nah you don't add much, you average over 40 and we can do a lot better' to 'for the love of god don't get injured, you're one of our only two fit and competent seamers'.
He always just needed a chance to use the new ball. Impossible while Boult and Southee were both there, but now Boult’s gone he’s a shoe in for that role.Amazing how quickly CW attitude on Henry has gone from 'nah you don't add much, you average over 40 and we can do a lot better' to 'for the love of god don't get injured, you're one of our only two fit and competent seamers'.
He's averaged 28 on some absolutely dead Pak decks, flat England pitches with a ball that's worth zilch after the 10th over and some flat/some friendly home decks. Not like his sudden transformation has coincided with the gift of greentops, he's just become a much better bowler at test level.yeah I was always a critic (in a "his stats basically reflect his performance and you can't demand the selection of a guy like that" way) and I still think he is kinda limited tbh. Eh....wouldn't say at all that the recent decks in England/NZ have been "flat". His output in Pakistan is 2 wickets for 127.He's averaged 28 on some absolutely dead Pak decks, flat England pitches with a ball that's worth zilch after the 10th over and some flat/some friendly home decks. Haha he looks like he could make 1000 today.Home hundy coming for Conway.
All fair tbh, my bad for not looking more in depth at his series by series performance.Henry has taken 8 wickets @39 in England during the relevant time anyway, so it's basically in NZ where he's been good. 1 MOTM performance against the horrible 2021 England and 1 bad performance against BazBall.
Yeah and sorry, reading back I came over way too hostile for posts where I was basically trying to offer Henry measured praise ?All fair tbh, my bad for not looking more in depth at his series by series performance.
Ideally our attack in Bangladesh will be Southee and a fit JamiesonEh....wouldn't say at all that the recent decks in England/NZ have been "flat". His output in Pakistan is 2 wickets for 127.
But him improving was my point anyway. Doesn't mean he's a canny subcontinent bowler all of a sudden.
