Amla was the perfect #3. Knew how to build a platform, dominate and stonewall as per the situation and he did so everywhere. He was the world's premier batsman in an era with some stiff competition and is one of two SA batsmen to master his home conditions. Don't think I'm alone in considering him a better test batsman than De Villiers, at least while their careers overlapped. No disrespect to Khawaja but this is a no contest and he merits a comparison with say, Gambhir as of now.

Khawaja needs another 3 years of his current form opening to even be in the same discussion as amla. If he does well in england later in the year and NZ whenever we play them next in NZ then maybe the dicsussion can be had. Right now usman has only succeeded opening on flat home decks and in the SC. That's a great start, but every time he's opened on greentops hes struggled.
