Sachin Tendulkar vs Jacques Kallis

Who was the better test cricketer?

Tendulkar is a better bat and to me a marginally better cricketer since I don't rate Kallis in the top 20 bats of all-time so the gulf between them in that category is large enough not to be filled by his bowling.

Tough one. If I am making a list of greatest players, I randomly drop Kallis somewhere between #5-#15. There are about 10 players that I may rank below or above him depending on the day. The number of players who are clearly better than him though is quite small in my mind.

Kallis is somewhat similar to Pollock to me in that their secondary disciplines are slightly overrated and I wouldn't put either in the top ten cricketers ever.

Ahead would be the top of the tree bats, Bradman, Tendulkar, Smith, Viv and Hobbs, top of the tree pacers McGrath and Marshall, and then top of tree allrounders Sobers, Hadlee, Miller and Imran, in no particular order.

Also likely some top tier ATGs on top of that too.

That can still fit him in to 15.

You probably also have Warne and Murali ahead?

Think this one is close. Tendulkar is obviously the better batsman, but who’s the better cricketer?
And yet the numbers say otherwise. Kallis even averaged 6 more in India than Tendulkar did. Throw in over 250 more wickets and it's a very straightforward decision (for those not blinkered anyway).

Are you stupid? Are you seriously comparing Indian bowling attack that Kallis faced to SA bowling attack that Tendulkar faced ?

In which universe are Donald + Pollock comparable to Srinath + Kumble?

Erm, in India is the key here? Are you seriously comparing Kumble with whichever SA spinner was thrown into the lion's den?

Kumble + random spinner couldn’t compete with Donald + Pollock . Please go and check bowling averages of Donald + Pollock in IND/ PAK .

I did, the pair of them played a massive 4 Tests in India. Did they really kill Tendulkar's average in those 4 Tests? I mean he did play another 90 Tests in his home country.

And you asked if I was stupid? Take off your blinkers and analyse the numbers, then come back to me with something to justify your stance.

So , are you seriously comparing Tendulkar average in 94 Test with Kallis average in 9 Test ?
I am out of this discussion .

I actually rate Kallis very highly. But to conclude Kallis is better because of 9 Test vs 94 Test sample size is highly problematic.

Imagine rating Ganguly higher than Ponting because of their average in England.

Are we allowed to compare 200 Tests with 166 Tests? Coz you know, Kallis wins that one too!!

Did I mention those extra 250 wickets too? Or how about the slip catching? Why is this even a discussion? The batting maybe close, but as an all round cricketer it's a cakewalk.
