Mahela was the greater match winner in test. Obviously played in a better era. Aravinda's purple patch was lost to civil war in 88-90 period.

De Silva is the best batsman we have had so have to go with him. I do love Mahela a bit more though. Anyway, they're both the two most talented batsmen we've ever produced by some distance.

Keeping all other parameters as they are, wonder how these two would've performed if their career timelines interchanged?

Mahela would be still more valuable. Utterly ruthless when set. Aravinda tended to throw it away once he got to 3 figures. How ever, we would have had much more success in on SC countries if Aravinda's 88-90 purple patch was in current era.

How can you love Mahela and rate Sanga as useless

You have too respect a long held, deep-seated grudge. The maintenance of them is exhausting but definitely worthwhile. Aksi, @Himannv is one of CW's greats tbh.

Sanga is not completely useless (see, I'm a very reasonable man). He's above average with the gloves in limited overs although he's very ordinary with the bat. His glove work in the longer format isn't particularly good over a five-day period but he makes up for it as a pure bat and makes the best use of his very limited set of skills. On the whole, he's not useless, just very overrated and a bit of a hack.

But let's not make this about Sanga - this is the I love Mahela and De Silva thread!
